Walter E. Buttrum

Walter E. Buttrum, son of Thomas Grison Buttrum and Mary Ellen (Russell) Buttrum, was born September 22, 1918 in Massac County Illinois. He departed this life Thursday morning, March 17, 2005 at 7:15 AM at his home near Goreville, IL. At the time of his passing, Walter had attained the age of 86 years, 5 months & 25 days. Walter was united in marriage to Mary (Price) on December 7, 1941. She preceded him in death in February 1948. He was later united in marriage to Edith M. (Miller) on May 7, 1965 in Peoria, IL. She survives. Other survivors include: A Son ƒ?" Lowell Buttrum of the Dixon Springs community in Pope County, IL; A Daughter ƒ?" Barbara Howard of Morganfield, KY; A Stepson ƒ?" Kenneth Landreth, and his wife Bambi of Goreville, IL; 7 Grandchildren ƒ?" Brian Buttrum, Daryl Buttrum, Duane Buttrum, Michelle Simpson, Kelly Howard, Amanda Sanders & Jacquelen Landreth; 7 Great Grandchildren ƒ?" Megan, Gregory, Nichole, Jonathan, Jordan, Jaycee & Harley Marie; 2 Sisters ƒ?" Pearl Trammell of the Brownfield community in Pope County, IL & Jewell Pearce of Buncombe, IL; A Brother ƒ?" Tom Buttrum of Peoria, IL; Nieces & Nephews. In addition to his Parents & first wife, Walter was preceded in death by: A Son-in-Law ƒ?" Harris Howard; 3 Brothers ƒ?" Henry Buttrum, Clarence Buttrum & Wayne Buttrum; An Infant Brother. Walter was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. He served in the Pacific Theater of operation during World War II & was stationed in India for 3 years. Walter was a member of the Creve Coeur, IL American Legion Post. Walter was employed for 31 years, prior to his retirement, as a Hand Trucker for Caterpillar Tractor Company in East Peoria, IL. Walter attended the Busby Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing & camping. Walter leaves his family & many friends to cherish his memory. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, March 19, 2005 at 1 PM at the Busby Chapel Church, south of Goreville, IL. Rev. Dale Billingsley and Rev. Kenneth Blumenstock will officiate. Interment will be in the Cana Cemetery, north of Goreville, IL. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Heyde-Pillow VFW Post # 1301.
