Vernon L. "Bub" Horn

Vernon L. "Bub" Horn Age: 48 years A resident of rural Ozark, Illinois. Passed away Sunday, December 6, 2009, at 4:20 AM at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY. Bub was born October 6, 1961 in Harrisburg, IL. He was the son of Vern Horn & Barbara (Mahoney) Horn. Bub was united in marriage to Amber (Trover) on July 13, 1991 at the New Vision Church near Ozark, IL. She survives. Other survivors include: His Son - Jacob Horn of Ozark, IL His Daughter - Emily "Emmy" Horn at home in Ozark, IL His Father - Vern Horn of New Burnside, IL 3 Sisters - Cyndi Jennings, and her husband Eric, of Vienna, IL Karen Horn, and her husband Danny, of Creal Springs, IL Cathy Bundren, and her husband Glen, of Gary, IN His Father-in-Law & Mother-in-Law - Jerry & Cena Trover of Ozark, IL a Sister-in-Law - Laura Alsip, and her husband Chad of Ozark, IL 2 Brothers-in-Law - Kevin Trover, and his wife Tatia of Herrin, IL Curt Summers of St. Louis, MO Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, other relatives & many dear friends. In addition to his Mother, Bub was preceded in death by an Infant Brother, Vern Horn, Jr. and a Niece - Allie Bundren. Bub was a 1979 graduate of Vienna High School. He was employed by the Illinois Dept. of Corrections at the Shawnee Correctional Center since November 1984. Bub started his career as an Officer, was promoted to Sergeant and had attained the rank of Lieutenant. He was also a former Tactical Response Team Member, Training Coordinator, Hostage Negotiator, and Executive Vice President of Local 3605. Bub was a former New Burnside Village Board Member. He was a former member of the New Simpson Hill School board. He had also served as the chairman of the bond referendum committee and was instrumental in the construction of the New Simpson Hill School. Bub coached Boys and Girls Basketball at New Simpson Hill for several years. In addition he coached a 2nd and 3rd grade instructional basketball program. He also coordinated the "Lady Diamonds" traveling basketball team. Bub was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed horses. Bub attended the New Burnside Community Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, December 12, 2009, at 11 AM at the New Simpson Hill School. Brother Tim Blankenship and Brother Scott Sparks will officiate. Burial will be in the New Burnside Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 PM Friday, December 11, 2009, and from 9 AM - 11 AM Saturday, December 12, 2009, at New Simpson Hill School.
