Sherry M. Hogue

Sherry M. Hogue, age 71, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Sherry was born November 20, 1953, in Union County IL to William and Mary Heal and was the youngest of three daughters. She was united in marriage to Wayne Hogue in Ocean Beach California on June 20, 1973. Wayne and Sherry enjoyed celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends in June of 2023. Sherry was a 1971 graduate of Vienna High School. She received an associate degree in secretarial sciences from Shawnee Community College where she also served as the executive secretary to the Dean of Students. However, Sherry spent the majority of her career as a rural carrier for the USPS. Sherry took great pride in her work and strived to provide the best service possible to the customers on her route for 28 years. Sherry was a member of the Illinois Rural Letter Carrier’s Association and National Rural Letter Carrier’s Association. During her time with these organizations, she advocated for rural carriers on a state and national level forming lifelong friendships along the way. Sherry was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a talented cook and avid gardener. Sherry was the happiest when she was outside and her hands were dirty. Sherry loved a good party or sitting by a fire under the stars. Her favorite activities were horseback riding, cooking and canning, working in her flowerbeds and with her succulents. She also enjoyed teaching those skills to others, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved and adored. Sherry is survived by: her husband, Wayne, of Vienna; two children – Laura (Chris) Maciaszek of West Monroe, Louisiana and Benjamin (Kristin) Hogue of Westerville, Ohio, and six grandchildren – Alexandria, Addison, and Christian Maciaszek, and Clay, Cooper, and Charlie Hogue. In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by her two sisters – Faye Ellen Heal and Norma Jean (Tom) Taylor. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2025, at 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Brother David Gillespie will officiate. Burial will be in the Belknap Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be conducted Wednesday evening, April 16, 2025, from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the Heather Harper Treat Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 98, Vienna, Illinois 62995 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
