Roy Lee Taylor

Roy L. Taylor Age: 74 A resident of Vienna, IL. Passed away Thursday evening, February 26, 2009, at St. Louis University Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Roy was born June 16, 1934 near Simpson, Illinois. He was the son of Lowell Taylor and Mamie J. (Murrie) Taylor. Roy was united in marriage to Melba R. (Wallace) on July 12, 1954 at the Vienna First Baptist Church. She survives. Other survivors include: 2 Daughters - Valerie Ervin, and her husband Ron, of Marion, IL Michele McGinnis, and her husband Duane, of Grantsburg, IL 3 Grandchildren - Melissa Gill, and her husband Ryan, of Vienna, IL, Joshua Ervin of Marion, IL and Leslie Peternell, and her husband Ryan, of Evanston, IL a Great Grandson - Tyler Gill of Vienna 2 Brothers - Harold Gene Taylor, and his wife Mary, of Anna, IL Bobbie Taylor, and his wife Norma, of Villa Park, IL a Sister - Betty Lou Harris of Florida a Sister-in-Law - Dorothy Taylor of Wood Dale, IL Several Nieces & Nephews In addition to his Parents, Roy was preceded in death by: A Son - Jeffrey A. Taylor 2 Brothers - James H. Taylor and Murrie G. Taylor Roy was a 1952 graduate of Vienna High School. He was employed by Farris Motor Company in Vienna. From 1953 until his retirement in 1995, Roy was employed at the Vienna Western Auto Store, where he served in the position of Assistant Manager. In his retirement, Roy served for a number of years as the Vienna Grade School crossing guard. Roy was a devoted Christian. He was a member and deacon in the Vienna First Baptist Church. Roy was an active volunteer worker in the First Baptist Church food pantry ministry. Additionally, Roy had participated in several mission trips, along with Brother Paul McGinnis. Roy was an avid reader and especially enjoyed Louis L'Amour western novels. He collected knives and coin sets and had also enjoyed fishing. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 2, 2009, at 11 AM at the Vienna First Baptist Church. Rev. Ed Hollis and Rev. Dwayne Sheumaker will officiate. Burial will be in the Gilead Cemetery near Simpson, IL. Friends may call from 5 PM - 8 PM Sunday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna and from 10 AM - 11 AM Monday at the church.
