Schierbaum, age 84 years, a resident of rural Tunnel Hill, passed away Thursday evening, December 21, 2023, at 11:45 P.M. at his home. Robert was born July 23, 1939 on the family farm where he lived his entire life. His parents were Daniel Schierbaum and Gertrude (Brown) Schierbaum. On April 2, 1961, Robert was united in marriage to Karen Snider at the Vienna Pentecostal Church. Together, Robert and Karen have enjoyed over 62 years of marriage. In addition to his beloved wife, Robert is survived by: their children – Dale (Kathy) Schierbaum of Tunnel Hill, Illinois, Brent Schierbaum of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jennifer (Mike) Downs of Whitesboro, Texas; 3 grandsons – Joseph, Benjamin, and Evan Downs all of Whitesboro, Texas; a brother-in-law – Curtis Craig of Goreville, Illinois and a sister-in-law – Jan Schierbaum of Vienna, Illinois; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by: his sister – Mary Lou Craig; and 3 brothers – Chester, Archie, and Charles Schierbaum. Robert was a graduate of Goreville High School. Following his graduation, Robert was employed at Dura-Containers in Herrin. He later worked in the construction trade and was a worker on the Interstate 57 project. Robert earned a bachelor of science degree and taught 4th grade for 32 years. He taught for 3 years at Franklin Grade School and for 29 years at Goreville Grade School. Following his retirement from the education field, the Lord allowed him to begin operating Schierbaum Logging, along with his son Dale, in 1996. Robert enjoyed the logging and timber business for many years until his health declined. At the age of 14, the Lord gave Robert the desire of his heart and he was able to purchase his first 80 acres of land for $5.00 per acre. Over time, he was able to purchase the original Schierbaum Farm, first settled by his great-grandfather, Adolphus Schierbaum. Robert loved the land & farming. He particularly enjoyed baling hay, raising cattle and walking his fields, talking with the Lord. The Lord opened the door for Robert to start the Apostolic House of Worship in Marion, Illinois, where he has served as pastor for 37 years. Robert was a faithful man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and church family. Most of all, he loved the Lord and never lost his faith in God during his long journey with Parkinsons Disease. Even on hard and difficult days, Robert loved to praise the Lord and share his many testimonies of God’s healing and provision throughout his life. Among all of his many blessings, Robert’s most treasured blessing was being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and filled with the Holy Ghost. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jennifer McSparin, Debbie Farris, and the many friends and neighbors who offered their encouragement and assistance during Robert’s long illness. A service honoring the life of Robert E. Schierbaum will be conducted Thursday morning, December 28, 2023, at 11 A.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Mark Johnson and Pastor Marlin Harp will officiate. Burial will be in Webb Cemetery, near Tunnel Hill. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. There will also be a time of visitation from 10 A.M. – 11 A.M. prior to the funeral service Thursday morning, December 28, 2023.
