Robert E Rentfro

Robert E. Rentfro Age: 92 years A resident of Vienna, Illinois. Passed away Sunday afternoon, September 11, 2011, at 5:28 PM at the Veterans Administration Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marion, Illinois. Robert was born April 6, 1919 in the Bloomfield community in Johnson County Illinois. He was the son of William Amos and Stella Mae (Keeling) Rentfro. Robert was united in marriage to Elaine Lee Myers on August 11, 1946 at the Vienna First Baptist Church parsonage. She survives. Other survivors include: A Son – Bobby Keeling Rentfro and his wife Debbie of Collinsville, IL A Daughter – Hannah Colleen Mills and her husband Bill of Vienna, IL 4 Grandchildren - Heather Montroy Yuri & Khristen Rentfro Cayteerose Carter Elaina & Kyle Scerena 3 Great Grandchildren - Jayden, Brodie, & Alexis Harmony In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph L. Rentfro. Robert was a 1938 graduate of the Vienna High School. He had worked as an usher and later served as the manager of the Grand Theater in Vienna. Robert was elected sheriff of Johnson County and served from 1962-1966. He was then elected Johnson County Clerk & Recorder and served from 1966-1970. Robert was then employed as a teamster in the construction trade and later as a highway maintenance worker by the Illinois Department of Transportation retiring in 1996 at the age of 77. Robert was a U.S. Army combat veteran of the First Cavalry. He served in the south Pacific during World War II and later served during the Korean conflict. Robert was a member of the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 in Vienna and was a member of the former Harry Sullins American Legion Post. Robert loved driving and sightseeing. He was an avid reader and student of American history. Robert was a member of the Vienna First Baptist Church. Private interment will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
