Robbie Richardson

Robbie Richardson, son of Alva Richardson & Arminta (Faulkner) Richardson, was born January 1, 1918 in Johnson County Illinois. He departed this life Tuesday evening, March 24, 2009, at 10:19 PM at the Southeast Missouri Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. At the time of his passing, Robbie had attained the age of 91 years 2 months and 23 days. Robbie was united in marriage to Gladys L. (Sharp) Richardson in 1939 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She survives. In addition to his wife, Robbie is survived by: a Daughter - Darlene Louise Glasford, and her husband Ralph, of Anna, IL; 2 Sons - Robert Joel Richardson, and his wife Elaine, of Edwardsburg, MI and James Earl Richardson, and his wife Birgit, of Vienna, IL; 9 Grandchildren - Shane Richardson, Mike Burgess-Richardson, Michelle VanHuffle, Melanie Reed (Pumpkin), Robin Sullivan, Gena Grey, Niko Richardson, Chris Barnes and Jim Richardson; 10 Great Grandchildren - William Sullivan, Ashley Sullivan, KeishaVanHuffle, Britney Reed, Chad Reed, Cody Reed, Trevor Richardson, Logan Burgess-Richardson, Bradley Reinier and Joshua Reiner; 12 Great Great Grandchildren; Nieces & Nephews. In addition to his Parents, Robbie was preceded in death by: an Infant Son - Russell Eugene Richardson; a Granddaughter - Sonya Rene Glasford Reinier; 4 Sisters and 7 Brothers. Robbie was a U.S. Navy veteran. He served aboard the U.S.S. Tennessee in the Pacific theater of operation. Robbie was a life member of the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post 5222 and the Harry Sullins American Legion Post both in Vienna. Robbie was a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a degree in electrical engineering. He was employed for many years in the electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration business by Upton Brothers Plumbing Co. and later by John Dunn. Robbie then accepted a position with the Illinois Dept. of Corrections and was employed as chief electrician at the Vienna Correctional Center until his retirement in 1983. Robbie was a member of the Faith Harvest Assembly Church in Vienna. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Robbie enjoyed sharing "tall tales" with his grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 27, 2009, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Dr. Richard Keeley will officiate. Burial will be in the Gilead Cemetery, near Simpson, IL. Military graveside rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 11 AM - 1 PM Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
