Ora Nell Ross

Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies……..She looketh well to the way of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed her husband also, and he praiseth her. Ora Nell (Choate) Ross was born at Tunnel Hill Illinois, May 6, 1926, she was a lifelong resident of Johnson County with her home being in Vienna,IL (Bloomfield Community). Her parents were Joseph Matthew and Emma Ann (Casey) Choate. She was the 5th of 6 children; Ruby (Allen Jones), Pearl (Luther Smith), Norman (Myrtle Hight) Choate, Pauline (Waldo Lawrence), and Joseph Matthew, Jr. Her siblings all preceded her in death. She gave her heart to the Lord in 1954 and attended Tunnel Hill Pentecostal Church. She also attended Spillertown Revival Tabernacle. Prior to the decline in her health she attended Mermet Pentecostal Church. Her church and church friends meant so much to her. She grew up around Tunnel Hill and went to school at Tunnel Hill and Vienna. After graduating in 1944 she went to Evansville and worked with her sister Ruby and 2 of her future sister-n-laws Lorraine and Bonnie at an airplane factory during the war. She married Clifford Ross on November 8, 1947. To this union 3 children were born: Judith Darlene (Terry Lewis), Deborah Jane (Clearon Wright), and Stephen Morray ( Lorraine Abbott). Clifford and Judith proceeded her in death. Ora Nell had 10 grandchildren: Judith’s children; Matthew, Micah, and Daniel. Deborah Jane’s children: Rocky (Kris Persson), Ross (Stacie Flippin), Sarah (Dwayne Jarrett), Sally (Lou Cortez), and Josh (Jenni Charity). Steve’s children Dr. Priscilla (Dr. Randall Bishop) and Joanna Hughes. She was blessed with 21 great grandchildren: Gracie, Sara, Anna Bishop; Michael, Anthony, Sophia, Jack Hughes; Casie, Justin Wright; Clay, Jacob, Joseph, Kylee Wright; Cosette and Juliette Wright; Dwayne, Joshua (Natalee Scire), Charity, Jonathan, Anna Jarrett; and Alexander Cortez. Zoey Madison is her only great great granddaughter. They were the apple of her eye. Services for Ora Nell will be October 7, 2017 at 10AM at Bailey’s Funeral Home in Vienna, Illinois. Bro Sam Roberts will officiate the service and burial will be at Woodside Cemetery to be with her beloved husband Clifford and daughter Judy. Pallbearers are Dwayne, Joshua, Jonathan, Clay, Michael, and Anthony. Honorary Pallbearers Jack, Joseph, Jacob, Justin, and Alex. Visitation will be held Friday evening, October 6, 2017, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home.
