Myra, along with her twin sister Mary, was born February 13, 1935 in Vienna, Illinois. She was the daughter of Tilford and Grace Elzora (Mathis) Sanders. On June 12, 1954, Myra was united in marriage to Howard Ray Powell in Vienna, Illinois. The double wedding ceremony also united Myra’s twin sister, Mary, in marriage to Bob Harper. Howard Ray preceded Myra in death on July 22, 2018. Myra is survived by: her children – Becky Powell Turley, Steve (Kathy) Powell, and Debbie (Bill) Powell Rigsby all of Ozark, Illinois and Lindsey (Lorelei) Powell of Creal Springs, Illinois; grandchildren – Brett (Kaela) Turley of Marion, Illinois, Leslie (Brendon) Malkowski of Hermitage, Tennessee, Megan (Ryan) Hill of New Burnside, Illinois, Jillian Powell of Nashville, Tennessee, Tyler (Cathy) Rigsby of Portland, Oregon, Payton Rigsby of Louisville, Kentucky, Clinton (Andrea) Rigsby of Goreville, Illinois, Brooke (Steve) Crim of Paducah, Kentucky, Mariah (Levi) Bean of Creal Springs, Illinois, and Grady Powell of Marion, Illinois; great grandchildren – Lincoln Turley, Amerie Turley, Amelia Kate “Mia” Malkowski, Ryder Hill, Rieslyn Hill, Rhett Hill, Duke Rigsby, Caroline Bean, and Jace Bean; 3 sisters – Jane McClellan of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Sharon Folkman of Bismarck, Illinois, and Sally Taylor of Vienna, Illinois; brothers-in-law – Bob Harper of Tunnel Hill, Illinois and Cotton Webb of Dongola, Illinois; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents and husband, Myra was preceded in death by: a son-in-law – Mike Turley; 6 sisters – Holly Colleen Sanders, Betty Daniels, Connie Garner, Vickie Webb, Mary Harper, and Judy Nutty; and 2 brothers – Jim Sanders and George Sanders. Myra had been employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Vienna Correctional Center, prior to her retirement. She worked first in the warden’s office and later in the timekeeping office. Myra enjoyed quilting. She had also been an avid horseback rider. Myra was a member of the Daniel Chapman Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. Myra was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, October 16, 2024, at 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Jeff Treat will officiate. Burial will be in the Wise-Robinson Cemetery, north of Ozark. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour at 1 P.M. at the funeral home.
