Mike Anderson

Mike Anderson, age 53 years, a resident of Elkhart, Illinois and a former resident of Cypress, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, June 7, 2022, at 2:07 AM at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Mike was born January 6, 1969 in Anna, Illinois. He was the son of James and Brenda (Annable) Anderson. On April 28, 1989, Mike was united in marriage to Tonya Johnson at the West Eden United Methodist Church. She survives. Mike is also survived by: his parents – James and Brenda Anderson of Cypress; and 2 children – Michaela (Jordan) Blackburn of Springfield and Trey Anderson of Denver, Colorado. He was a beloved Pa Pa to his 3 grandchildren – McKinzy, Bennett, and Sutton Blackburn; Additionally, Mike is survived by: a sister – Suzi (David) Bratton of Cheyenne, Wyoming; nieces & nephews – Sean, Megan, Brooke, Ashley, LeAnn, Dawson, Jacob, Zac, Brad and Myra; a great nephew and great niece – Jace and Ella; his step mother-in-law – Lou Johnson of Macomb; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Mike was preceded in death by: his maternal grandparents – Doyle and Mary Ellen Annable; his paternal grandparents – Carl and Jennie Anderson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law – Gary and Marie Johnson; and a sister-in-law – Kimberly Ahrens. Mike was a 1987 graduate of Vienna High School. He attended Southern Illinois University and studied aviation. For the past 13 years, Mike was employed as the store director for Meijer Grocery in Normal, Illinois. Mike enjoyed many activities and past times. He and Tonya enjoyed taking jeep trips. He was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan. He enjoyed golfing. Along with his family, Mike enjoyed fishing trips and was always up for a trip or vacation, particularly if traveling by airplane. Mike and Tonya were self-styled “foodies.” Mike enjoyed barbecuing, a good bowl of either cereal or ice cream, and a shot of fine bourbon. Mike is remembered for his love of family. He cherished time spent with them and especially enjoyed activities with his grandchildren. Mike was generous and had a heart for helping others in any way that he could. He was a board member for Special Olympics in the Bloomington – Normal region. Mike and Tonya shared many wonderful years together. They were devoted Yeti believers and enjoyed competing in the summertime to see who could “darken-up” or tan the best…Mike always won! A gathering of family and friends will be conducted Friday afternoon, June 10, 2022, from 2 PM – 4 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
