Mike was born November 28, 1954 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Kenneth Dalton and Beverly (Hermann) Medved. On August 13, 1988, Mike was united in marriage to Tracy Wright at the Vienna First United Methodist Church. She survives. Mike is also survived by: his son – Michael Allan Dalton, Jr. (and his wife, Katelynn) of Vienna; grandchildren – Hailee (age 7) and Jules (age 5); 3 half-sisters; 2 half-brothers; other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his father-in-law & mother-in-law – Rex and Betsy Wright. Mike was a 1973 graduate of Vienna High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1974 until his honorable discharge in 1976 with the rank of machinist mate, 3rd class. Mike was a former member of the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 in Vienna. He also was a member of the Illinois National Guard. Mike attended Southeastern Illinois College at Harrisburg and earned certification in diesel technology. He was employed as a diesel mechanic for a number of years by Southern Materials, Inc. in Buncombe. Mike worked in the service department of the former John De Chevrolet dealership as well as working for Bill Cagle at the Vienna Standard Service Station. Mike held the position of manager at the Vienna NAPA for a number of years. He was a longtime school bus driver for the Vienna Unit School District as well as a dispatcher for the Johnson County sheriff’s department. He served for many years as a member of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. Mike was a former member of Vienna Masonic Lodge # 150 A.F. & A.M. as well as Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.A.O.N.M.S.) Ainad Temple. He was also a member of the Vienna First United Methodist Church. Mike is fondly remembered for his love of children and helping others. He brought great joy to many by playing Santa Claus at countless holiday events through the years. Mike also enjoyed spending time watching classic western movies. In 1999, Mike was blessed to be the recipient of a life-saving kidney transplant. The donor was an 11year old girl. Her name was Sadie. The decision her family made to permit this donation enabled Mike to enjoy 25 years of life that he might otherwise have not had to share with his family and friends. A service honoring the life of Mike Dalton will be conducted Thursday afternoon, June 27, 2024, at 1:30 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Tim Gossett will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, June 26, 2024, from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. There will also be an additional time of visitation from 12:30 P.M. until the funeral hour on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mid-America Transplant, 1110 Highlands Plaza Drive East, Suite 100, St. Louis, Missouri 63110 or to the St. Francis CARE – Animal Shelter, 6228 Country Club Road, Murphysboro, Illinois 62966 (www.stfrancis-care.org) or to any no kill animal shelter. The family would also respectfully request that everyone give consideration of sharing life by choosing to be an organ/tissue donor.
