Mary E. Williams

Mary Elizabeth (Stevens) Williams, age 90 years, a resident of Vienna and a former resident of Cypress, passed away Thursday morning, March 3, 2016, at 7:44 AM at the Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis. Mary was born March 14, 1925 in Pulaski County Illinois. She was the daughter of Marion E. and Cora Ann (Dunn) Stevens. On December 2, 1942, Mary was united in marriage to Paul Vernon Williams in Jackson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2001. Survivors include: her son – Rodney (Lynn) Williams of Grantsburg; 4 Grandchildren – Richard (Tammy) Williams of Karnak, Darand (Christi) Williams of Vienna, Rebecca (Jason) Bell of Paducah, and Ryan Williams of Grantsburg; 10 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; 4 sisters – Erma Story of Metropolis, Barbara Foster of Goreville, Alberta Stevens of Chicago & Patricia Price-Warner of Little Rock, Arkansas; 3 brothers – Aaron Stevens of Rock Falls, Marion Lewis Stevens of Olive Branch & Charlie Johnson of Chicago; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by: a son – Vernon Williams; stillborn twin children – Robert & Judy Williams; a granddaughter – Lisa Penrod; 2 brothers – William Stevens & Wesley Rhymer; 3 sisters – Minnie Smith, Velma Dickerson and Linda Price, as well as 5 infant sisters. Mary was employed for over 20 years as a waitress at the former Bob White Café in West Vienna. Also, Mary was employed for 18 ½ years as a support services work III at Choate Mental Health in Anna, prior to her retirement in 1986. Mary was a faithful and devoted Christian. She was a member of the Cypress Baptist Church and also attended the Vienna First Baptist Church. Mary enjoyed quilting, crochet and making a variety of hand crafted items including decorative rugs made from plastic shopping bags. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2016, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Everett Owens will officiate. Burial will be in the Cypress Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 PM – 9 PM Monday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the Heather Harper Treat Memorial Fund, P. O.
