Lillian "Ruth" Trovillion

Lillian Ruth Trovillion was the youngest of the five children born to Joseph L. and Jennie Etta (Estes) Leist. Her birth in Belknap, Johnson County, Illinois, on October 20, 1926 was at the home of her maternal grandparents, John and Loania Estes. Ruth departed this life Sunday afternoon, November 10, 2013 at 12:35 PM at Southgate Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, Illinois. Raised in Vienna, Ruth attended Vienna Grade School and Vienna Township High School. Her graduation was from Anna-Jonesboro High School, class of 1944. At that time, she was residing with her sister, Josephine, while her brother-in-law, Luther, was serving in the U.S. armed forces in Europe during World War II. On June 14, 1945, Ruth was married to John Paul “J.P.” Trovillion of Vienna. His birthdate was December 5, 1923 in Grantsburg, Illinois. He had served with the U.S. Marines during World War II and was honorably discharged on March 9, 1945. Their marriage was a double ceremony with J.P.’s cousin, James M. Walker and Ruth Elizabeth Casper at the Vienna First United Methodist Church. J.P. preceded her in death on July 7, 1999. Ruth is survived by her son Jay Paul Trovillion of Vienna, a granddaughter Addie Trovillion, and a sister Josephine Davis of Anna, Illinois. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother William F. Leist and 2 sisters Dorothy M. Willyard Jones and Mary A. Hensley. Ruth was formerly employed at the Johnson County Abstract Office, Veterans office and the Vienna Times newspaper office. J.P. held various jobs, then operated a bread route for many years. In October 1960, they purchased a grocery store in Vienna. “J.P. and Ruth’s Market” was a successful small business for almost 15 years. J.P. then became a food supervisor at the Vienna Correctional Center. He retired on December 31, 1988. Ruth worked as a clerk in the Johnson County Clerk’s office for one year and then accepted a position with Drover’s Bank in 1978, where she continued to work until her retirement. Ruth was a devoted member of the Vienna First United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the faith fellowship and enjoyed working in the Faith Alive ministry. Ruth enjoyed flower gardening. She and J.P. are fondly remembered for their love of ballroom dancing and for working in their yard. Friends may call Wednesday evening, November 13, 2013, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Private interment will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
