Letha M. Phelps

Letha M. Phelps, age 96 years, a resident of Metropolis, IL and formerly of rural Simpson, IL, passed away Friday afternoon, August 6, 2004 at 4:15 AM at the Southgate Health Care Center in Metropolis, IL. Letha was born May 4, 1908 in the Flatwoods Community of Johnson County, IL. She was the daughter of Ivory Morris & Leora (Simmons) Morris Toler. Letha was united in marriage to Lee Phelps on November 19, 1925 in Johnson County, IL. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1975. Survivors include: 1 Son ƒ?" Ray Phelps & his wife Imogene of Vienna, IL; 3 Daughters ƒ?" Dorothy Street of Vienna, IL, Rosalee Quertermous & her husband Paul of Paducah, KY, Carmen Wells & her husband George of Paducah, KY; 9 Grandchildren ƒ?" Connie Vincent, Colette Wallace, Robin Breeden, Tammy Eudy, Chad Phelps, Linda Thompson, Roy Street, Robert Street, & Dean Street; 18 Great Grandchildren; 7 Great-Great Grandchildren; 1 Brother ƒ?" Lewis Morris & his wife Leona of Plano, IL;1 Sister- Clara Abbott of Marion, IL; Nieces & Nephews, other relatives, & many dear friends. In addition to her Parents & Husband, Letha was preceded in death by: 1 Infant Son ƒ?" Leslie Glenn Phelps; 1 Infant Daughter ƒ?" Norma Jean Phelps; 3 Brothers ƒ?" Wayne, Cletis & Ward Morris; 1 Sister ƒ?" Murlie Campbell; 2 Sons-in-Law: Forrest Breeden & Clarence Street. Letha had attended the Flatwoods Public School. She was a homemaker & an excellent cook. She also enjoyed sewing & gardening, & she loved flowers. Letha enjoyed attending the Whistlers & Whittlers Senior Citizens Center, & had worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was a member of the Pope County Home Extension. Letha was a member of the Simpson Baptist Church, & was formerly a member of the County Line Baptist Church. She was devoted to her family & especially loved children. Letha had a wonderful sense of humor & enjoyed ƒ?ogoingƒ?? with family & friends. Letha leaves her family & many dear friends to cherish her memory. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, Augsut 8, 2004 at 2 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. David Faulkner will officiate. Burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday evening after 5 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Simpson Baptist Church or the Glendale Cemetery.
