Larry Gene Flannell

Larry Gene Flannell Age: 66 years A resident of New Burnside, IL. Passed away Friday morning, July 29, 2011, at 10:32 AM at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Illinois. Larry was born August 27, 1944 in the Dykersburg community. He was the son of Claude Flannell and Hilda Killman. Larry was united in marriage to Arlene Emery on July 25, 1969 in New Burnside, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include: 2 Sons - Nathan Flannell and Sumer of McClure, IL Wesley Flannell of New Burnside, IL 2 Grandsons - Trenton Flannell and Alex Flannell of McClure, IL 3 Sisters - Earlene Sullivan of Carrier Mills, IL Glenda Winters of Carrier Mills, IL Darla Huff of Big Spring, TX 3 Brothers - Gary Flannell of Kennesaw, GA Mark Flannell of Sullivan, IL Paul Flannell of Big Spring, TX A Sister-in-Law - Myrla Keller of Harrisburg, IL A Brother-in-Law - Randall Emery of Edinburg, TX An Aunt & Uncle - Barbara & Jerry Enz of Carrier Mills, IL Several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by: Maternal Grandparents - Tom & Beulah Killman Paternal Grandparents - Ed & Lois Flannell 2 Brothers - David Flannell & Charles Flannell 2 Brothers-in-Law - Charles Sullivan & Todd Emery Larry was a U.S. Army veteran. He served as a helicopter mechanic from 1965 - 1967 during the Vietnam War. Larry worked as a water well drill operator for many years for Quentin Richey Drilling Co. He also worked as a test driller for over 25 years for the Sahara Coal Company and later worked in mine land reclamation. Following his retirement from Sahara Coal Company, Larry has worked as a part-time custodian at the New Simpson Hill School. Larry enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors by working on lawn mowers and small engine projects. He enjoyed "piddling" with tractors. Larry was a member of the Sky Squires R.C. Club. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 7 PM Monday, August 1, 2011, at the Reynoldsburg Cemetery. Rev. Darrell Ford will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post of Vienna. Visitation will be from 4 PM - 6:30 PM Monday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
