Kaye was born October 5, 1956 in Wood River, Illinois. She was the daughter of James “Harold” Alsip and Linda Lou (Dillow) Alsip. On November 10, 2004, Kaye was united in marriage to Dennis E. Harris in Tallulah, Louisiana. He survives. Kaye is also survived by: her children – Erinn Bowman of Golconda, Illinois and Miles Simmons of Vienna, Illinois; grandchildren – Abby (her fiancé, Sam Howard) Bowman, Kaylea Simmons, Kylea Simmons, Kamryn “Bubba” Simmons, and Kamalynn Simmons; a brother – James L. (Kim) Alsip of Anderson, South Carolina; a daughter-in-law – Danielle Simmons of Joppa, Illinois; nieces and nephews, including – Gary James, Amber (Chris) Curry, Thomas Alsip, Noah Alsip, and Bailey Alsip; as well as a host of cousins, her Harris family in-laws, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, Kaye was preceded in death by: a son – David Ray Simmons, a granddaughter – Ella Rae Simmons, 2 brothers – Tracy Alsip and Bryan Alsip; and her father-in-law & mother-in-law – Marvin “Tom” and Juanita Harris. Kaye was a 1974 graduate of Vienna High School. She also attended Shawnee Community College where she received training and certification as a licensed practical nurse (L.P.N.). Kaye was employed by the former Good Luck Glove factory in Vienna. She also was a bus driver for the Johnson County Head Start as well as working as a home health care provider through Shawnee Development Council. Kaye also worked in various health care facilities during her nursing career, including the Union County Hospital in Anna and Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna. Kaye was a devoted homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and bird watching. Kaye also enjoyed playing card games, including solitaire and canasta. She also enjoyed fishing, as well as attending garage sales and flea markets. Kaye enjoyed listening to music. She particularly enjoyed Blues music. Kaye took great pride in her family and cherished time spent with them. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Kaye is fondly remembered for her love of and zest for life. She was of the Christian faith. A service honoring the life of Kaye Harris will be conducted Saturday afternoon, July 5, 2025, at 2 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Scott Harris will officiate. The family will receive relatives and friends from 12 Noon until the service hour at 2 P.M. Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the funeral home.
