Judy Murley

Judy K. Murley, age 61 years, a resident of rural Grantsburg, IL. (the Benton community). Judy went to be with her Lord Jesus on Friday, October 31, 2008, at 1:10 PM at her home after a valiant battle with brain cancer for the past 20 months. At the time of her passing, Judy was surrounded by her loving family. Judy was born February 10, 1947 in Metropolis, IL. She was united in marriage to Bob Murley on February 1, 1969 in Murray, KY. He survives. She was the Mother of Brian (Lisa) Murley and Julie (Rusty) Blanchard. She leaves her grandchildren, Hannah and Caleb Murley, Clayton, Baylee, and McKinlee Blanchard. She is also survived by a Brother John (Wanda) Burnett, Sisters Rosemary (Lowell) Helm, Linda Burnam and Joellen (Ron) Newberry, Brother-in-law John (Mary) Murley, one nephew, four nieces and six grand nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Mary (Rose) and Ernest Burnett, Nephew Chad Newberry and Brother-in-law Terry Burnam. Judy was a 1969 graduate of Murray State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. Judy was employed by the Massac Co. Unit I School District as an educator for 33 years at Jefferson Elementary School before her retirement. She was a devoted Christian. Judy was the pianist and a life long member at the Benton Community Church. She unselfishly shared her Christian gifts and outgoing personality with all who knew her. Her friends and family will long remember Judy's smile and laughter. Her encouragement and her guidance were an inspiration to many. Judy was a vibrant and active person. She enjoyed clogging, playing tennis, and kayaking. She was an artist and enjoyed quilting. Judy was also an avid reader. Graveside services will be held at Metropolis Memorial Gardens at 11:00 AM, Monday morning, November 3, 2008. Those attending the service are ask to gather at the cemetery at 10:45 AM. There will be no public visitation.
