Joyce M. Langston

Joyce Marie (Ritchey) Langston, age 85 years, a resident of Vienna, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, June 16, 2023, at 7:40 A.M. at her home. Joyce was born May 6, 1938 in Cypress, Illinois. She was the daughter of John Luther Ritchey and Ruby Lee (Morgan) Ritchey. On June 10, 1955, Joyce was united in marriage to Gerald Dean Langston at Cypress, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2008. Joyce is survived by: her sons – Kevin (Kelli) Langston of Vienna and Keith (Misti) Langston of Ava; 4 grandchildren – Jacob Graves Langston, Paige Marie (Ben) Yates, Kaden Dean Langston, and Dashia Wathen; 2 great grandchildren – John Theodore Yates and McCormick Yates; her siblings – June Corzine of Carbondale, Marjorie Schweiger of Chicago, Betty Clark of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Glen Ritchey of Elgin, and Esther Tite of Highland, Indiana; dear friends – Lowell Ross and Judy Wright; her church family at the Vienna Church of Christ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by: an infant daughter – Rhonda Marie Langston and a brother – Maurice Ritchey. Joyce was a 1955 graduate of Vienna High School. During her senior year, Joyce was honored to be selected Prom Queen as well as being voted “The Most Athletic.” Joyce had worked at a number of different vocations. She began her working career at the Good Luck Glove Factory. Joyce and Gerald were both employed for a time by the Mars Candy Company in Chicago. Joyce worked in East St. Louis, Illinois as a portrait photographer. Later, Joyce worked as a parent coordinator in the administrative office of Shawnee Development Council, Inc. / Headstart Department. She retired in 1991. Joyce was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing board games, going for drives in the country and going out to eat. Joyce was a member of the Vienna Church of Christ since 1968. A Graveside Service honoring the life of Joyce Langston will be conducted Thursday morning, June 22, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the Cypress Cemetery, 5847 IL State Route 37 South, Cypress, Illinois. Brother Philip Jones will officiate. Interment will follow. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 AM – 10:30 AM Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Cypress Cemetery.
