Joann was born August 4, 1947 in Pulaski County, Illinois. She was the ninth child and fifth daughter of Joshua West and Daisy (Fisher) West. Joann grew up in Grand Chain, Illinois. She attended Grand Chain School and graduated from Century High School in 1965. Following graduation, Joann worked as a secretary and then as a quality assurance specialist for the Department of Defense in Joliet, Illinois and Milan Army Ammunitions Plant in Milan, Tennessee. While working, Joann attended Jackson State and then Bethel College, earning a degree in business. Family and friends will most remember Joann for her friendly personality and happy smile. Her laughter was contagious and would soon have everyone else laughing along. Joann loved shopping and after early retirement, opened her own shop in Milan, Tennessee. She kept her shop “Appalachian Country” open for 20 years prior to her retirement. She sold her home in Milan and bought a home in Grand Chain, the small town where her heart always remained. Joann had a special place in her heart for her mother, her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews…and they all loved Aunt Joann. Joann loved vacationing, especially in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Joann was preceded in death by her parents, siblings – Bruce, Gene, Sue, Jack and Gail. She is survived by a brother – Langley and 3 sisters – Luella Thomason, Jane Winterbottom, and Patsy Stetter. Joann had a beautiful voice. Her singing and smile will be missed. Funeral services honoring the life of Joann West will be held Saturday afternoon, February 15, 2025 at 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Tammy Horn will officiate. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery near Dongola. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M at the funeral home.
