Irene Bender Age: 83 years A resident of Golconda, Illinois Passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 15, 2010, at 12:20 PM at the Pope County Care Center in Golconda, Illinois. Irene was born June 10, 1927 in Rosiclare, Illinois. She was the daughter of Charles Andrew Gebauer and Mary Ann (Sutherland) Gebauer. Irene was united in marriage to Fred Robert Bender in Elizabethtown, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1986. Survivors include: a Son - Joe Allen Bender of Giessen, Germany 2 Daughters - Jenna Golnik, and her husband Florian, of Efland, NC and Tanya Williamson, and her husband Donnie, of Golconda, IL 10 Grandchildren - Michael Sig, Katrina & Jay Turner, Nathaniel Golnik, Don Carter, Wendi Carter, Kendra & Darin Shell, Sarah Bevis, Sandra Bender, Christian Bender and Clinton Williamson. 4 Great Grandchildren - Jordan Bevis, Brookelynn Shell, Aiden Turner and Jackson Turner. Nephews, including special nephews: Gilbert Glenn Glass, and his wife Deloris, of Thayer, IL and David Davis of Thayer, IL. In addition to her Parents and Husband, Irene was preceded in death by: a Half Sister - Josephine Davis, and her husband Glenn 2 Half Brothers - Lawrence Gebauer and Noel Gebauer Irene was a graduate of the Rosiclare High School. She was a devoted homemaker. Irene enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends, as well as volunteering in her community. Until her declining health prevented her involvement, Irene was actively involved in numerous civic and community organizations, including the Pope County Garden Club, the Pope County Homemaker's Extension, the Golden Circle Senior Citizens Board, and the Shawnee Red Hat Society. Irene's love of reading led her to volunteer in an after school reading program in the Pope County community school system, where she shared her love for literature with many children. Irene attended the Golconda First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010, at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church, corner of Monroe and Jefferson Streets, Golconda, IL. Brother Kevin Richerson will officiate. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery in the Rosebud community in Pope County Illinois. Friends may call from 12 Noon - 2 PM Saturday at the Golconda First Baptist Church.
