Rev. Jimmie D. Mifflin Sr.

On Wednesday, July 24th, Rev. Jimmie Dean Mifflin, Sr., went to be with his Lord and Savior at 9:15 AM. Jimmie was born in Sand Ridge, Illinois to Murray and Floy (Gordon) Mifflin on June 21, 1929. He married Loretta Phillips on August 13, 1949. In December of 1951, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. During his 42 years of marriage to Loretta, 6 boys were born. He spent much of his time with his family and as construction site superintendent for 40 plus years, building many buildings, bridges, and other commercial construction projects all over Illinois. He was ordained as a Southern Baptist minister in 1966 and served as Pastor of several local Baptist Churches. He was a 50 year member of the Carpenters Union Local # 638 in Marion, Illinois. His hobbies included riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, watching and filming trains, cabinetry and custom furniture, many wood working projects, raising rabbits and shooting trap with his buddies from Rantoul. In later years, Jimmie enjoyed feeding & watching birds as well as working puzzles. His life work included sharing the Good News of Jesus. On July 15, 1994, Jimmie was remarried. He was united in marriage to Shelby (nee Street). In that same year, Jimmie retired from the construction business. He and Shelby continued to live in Rantoul, Illinois until June 2012. They then moved to Golconda, Illinois where they joined the New Liberty Church in December 2015. Shelby preceded him in death. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, 2 brothers – Harley Mifflin and Harry Mifflin; a sister-in-law – Dorothy Mifflin; a brother-in-law – Jim Crowell and a grandson – Joseph Wayne Mifflin. Survivors include: a sister -Grace Crowell of St. Charles, Missouri; his sons – Jimmie Dean Mifflin, Jr. (June) of Ava, Randall Joseph Mifflin (Leslie) of Sand Ridge, Mark Jason Mifflin of Steeleville, Jeremy Scott Mifflin of Tennessee, Andrew Justin Mifflin (Laura) of Chester, and Jesse Kent Mifflin (Michele) of Sand Ridge; his step children – Randy (Cindy) Belford of Golconda and Tammy (Danny) Millis of Golconda; grandchildren – Eric (Lori) Meade, Jennifer Hill, Jacob (Jennifer) Mifflin, Jon Mifflin, Jimmy (Natalie) Crowden, Joshua Mifflin, Jodi (Quincy) Green, April (John) Mifflin Asher, Timmy (Becca) Mifflin, Kyle Mifflin, Brenda (Chris) Duensing, Allyson (Skylar) Mifflin, Matthew Mifflin, Karolynn Mifflin, Luke Mifflin, Eli Mifflin and Jessica Mifflin; step grandchildren – Lesley (Billy) Williamson, Brannon (Shannon) Partain, Jennifer (Michael) Twitchell, Jessica (Brandon) Garrison, Tina (Brian) Underwood and Jacey Belford; as well as a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A service honoring the life of Rev. Jimmie Mifflin will be conducted Thursday afternoon, August 1, 2019, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Andrew Mifflin, one of Jimmie’s sons, along with Brother Erick Bauer will officiate. Burial will be in the McClanahan Cemetery east of Grantsburg. Military graveside honors will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 and the United States Marine Corps burial honors detail. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11 AM – 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois, 10400 Terminal Drive, Suite 200, Marion, IL 62959. Jimmie was honored to participate in the May 2019 Flight. .
