Jerry Russell Simmons

Jerry Russell Simmons, son of Oliver Simmons & Laura (Deasel) Simmons, was born June 21, 1926 in Grantsburg, IL. He departed this life Friday evening, February 24, 2006, at 11:00 PM at his home near Vienna. At the time of his passing, Jerry had attained the age of 79 years, 8 months & 3 days. Jerry was united in marriage to Jane (Sanders) on November 25, 1948 in Piggott, Arkansas. She survives. Other survivors include: A Daughter ƒ?" Terri McKenzie, and her husband Nick, of Vienna, IL; Grandchildren: Scott & Mindy McKenzie of Vienna, IL & Sara Jane McKenzie; Great Grandchildren: Sam, C.J., Christopher, Kaitlynn, Aaron & Angel; A Sister-in-Law: Ludean Shoemaker-Simmons of Golconda, IL; Several Nieces & Nephews. In addition to his Parents, Jerry was preceded in death by: A Sister ƒ?" Mary Morgan, 2 Brothers ƒ?" Joe Simmons & Junior Simmons & 2 Half Sisters ƒ?" Peggy Arnold & Nell Goodgoin. Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. Jerry was employed for 21 years at All-Steal Equipment in Aurora, IL as foreman and general foreman. Following his retirement and their return to Johnson County, Jerry & Jane operated Simmons Home Furnishings for several years. Jerry served from 1986-1994 as the Johnson County Clerk & Recorder. Jerry was a member of the County Line Baptist Church in the Flatwoods community. He was also a member of New Columbia Masonic Lodge # 336 AF&AM at Ganntown. Jerry was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening, bowling, and collecting & repairing antique clocks. Jerry was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Jerry leaves his family & many dear friends to cherish his memory. Funeral services will be held Monday morning, February 27, 2006, at 11 AM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. David Faulkner & Bro. Richard Hart will officiate. Burial will be in the Kerley Cemetery in the Flatwoods Community of Johnson County Illinois. Friends may call Sunday evening from 5 PM ƒ?" 8 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 PM.
