Jack Shelton

Jack Shelton passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at Herrin Hospital after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was 79 years old. Jack was born on Aug. 17, 1928 in Eldorado, Illinois to John and Lora (Little) Shelton. He was married to Marylou Browning on Dec. 31, 1953 in Benton, Illinois. She survives. Jack was a graduate of Grand Tower Grade School and Murphysboro High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War, stationed in Tokyo, Japan. Jack was a retired telegrapher for the Illinois Central Railroad. For many years Jack owned and operated Shelton TV Service in Vienna. He was also a licensed amateur radio operator. His call sign was WB9WJW. Jack also enjoyed computer repair, electronics, and reading. Survivors include his children, Pat Stockdale of Simpson, Cathy Drobysh of Carol Stream, and Jan Farmer, Joan Clayton, and Jack Edward Shelton, all of Vienna. Jack is also survived by two sons-in-law, James Stockdale and David Clayton, a daughter-in-law, Toni Shelton, and 16 grandchildren: John, Danny, and Will Stockdale; Melissa, Matthew and Michael Drobysh; Andy, Natalie and Julie Farmer; Jill, Amy and Kelly Clayton; and Alex, Ben, Maggie and Jake Shelton. One brother, Herbert Shelton of Carbondale, also survives. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a grandson, Jack Edward Shelton II, a brother, Paul Shelton, and a sister, Daphne Wills. Jack brought joy to everyone who knew him with his unique and wonderful sense of humor. He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved and served his Lord and Savior and was a longtime deacon and 40-year member of the Vienna First Christian Church. More recently, he was a member of the Heartland Worship Center in Paducah, Kentucky. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Richard Martin will officiate. Interment will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials may be made to The Children\'s Inn at NIH, 7 West Drive, Bethesda, MD.
