George E. Penrod

George E. Penrod, son of John Penrod & Roberta (Alsip) Penrod, was born November 9, 1929 on Hound Dog Ridge in Johnson County Illinois. He departed this life Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at 6:20 AM at the Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, IL. At the time of his passing, George had attained the age of 77 years 10 months & 17 days. George was united in marriage to Thelma Annable on July 24, 1953 at Lutherƒ?Ts Chapel United Methodist Church near Cypress, IL. She survives. Other survivors include: a Son ƒ?" Roger Penrod, and his wife Lisa, of Cypress, IL; a Daughter ƒ?" Kimberley Beasley, and her husband Thomas, of Tamms, IL; 6 Grandchildren ƒ?" Dustin Penrod, Lacey Dodson, Shawn Penrod, Jessica Moreland, Kassandra Beasley, & Derek Beasley; 2 Great Grandchildren ƒ?" Brooklyn Penrod and Kaitlyn Dodson; Nieces & Nephews. In addition to his Parents, George was preceded in death by: 3 Sisters ƒ?" Mary Richardson, Hazel Jones, Julia Blankenship; 2 Brothers ƒ?" Marion ƒ?oPennyƒ?? Penrod & Ray Penrod; 4 Half-Brothers ƒ?" Ralph Alsip, John Vinson, Farris Penrod, & Fate Penrod and a Half-Sister ƒ?" Josie Beggs. George was a U.S. Army veteran. George was employed as a railroad roundhouse maintenance worker. Later, he worked at the Anna Rock Quarry. George was employed by the Illinois Dept. of Transportation for 22 years and 8 months, prior to his retirement on December 31, 1991. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local # 318 and was a former member of the Teamsters Union. George attended Lutherƒ?Ts Chapel United Methodist Church near Cypress, IL, as well as the Cypress Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time outdoors. George was an avid coon hunter and loved to pitch washers. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and with the help of his family & neighbors raised a garden this year. George loved telling stories and spending time with his family & many friends. George leaves his family & many dear friends to cherish his memory. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, September 29, 2007, at 12 Noon at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Gary Oƒ?TNeal and Rev. Tim Blankenship will officiate. Interment will be in the Cypress Masonic Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 of Vienna.
