Everett Whitnel

Everett Whitnel, age 81 years, a resident of Vienna, Illinois, passed away Friday morning, January 12, 2024, at 4:59 A.M. at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, Illinois. Everett was born March 29, 1942 in the West Eden community in Johnson County Illinois. He was the son of Wayne and Helen (Taylor) Whitnel. On December 20, 1962, Everett was united in marriage to Marilyn Evans at the First Christian Church in Vienna. She survives. In addition to his wife, Everett is survived by: a daughter – Tina (her husband, Glenn) Stroud of Toledo, Illinois; a son – Sean (his wife, Falon) Whitnel of Vienna, Illinois; 7 grandchildren – Travis Stroud, Jake (his wife, Haley) Stroud, Owen Whitnel, Paycee Whitnel, Shiloh Whitnel, Cash Whitnel, and Kolt Dallas Whitnel; 4 great grandchildren – Lottie, Walyn, Maren, and Knoxx; a sister-in-law – Karen Brumley of Vienna, Illinois; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Everett was preceded in death by: an infant brother – Clarence Whitnel; 2 brothers & a sister-in-law – Harvey Whitnel and William “Bill” (Freeda Jo) Whitnel; 2 sisters & brothers-in-law – Vera (Ray) Swarzy and Margaret (Lee) Butler; and a brother-in-law – Richard Brumley. Everett was a 1960 graduate of Vienna High School. He then attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Everett was a longtime Johnson County businessman and was the owner and operator of Whitnel Funeral Homes in Vienna and Goreville for many years. He served for approximately 30 years as the Johnson County Coroner. Everett was a member and Past Master of Vienna Masonic Lodge # 150 A.F. & A.M. He also had served as a volunteer and assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop # 41. Everett enjoyed aviation and piloting. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Everett also enjoyed motorcycling and his “trike.” Everett loved visiting with family and friends, storytelling, and serving his community. He and Marilyn worshipped at the First Christian Church in Vienna. Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon, January 15, 2024, at 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery, southeast of Vienna. Visitation will be held Monday, January 15, 2024, from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the funeral home.
