Emelyn R. Evers

Emelyn R. Evers, daughter of Charles A. Whiteside & Minnie L. (Taylor) Whiteside, was born December 29, 1921 in the Pond Community in Johnson County Illinois. She departed this life Tuesday morning, June 26, 2007, at 9:19 AM at her home near Vienna. At the time of her passing, Emelyn had attained the age of 85 years 5 months & 28 days. Emelyn was united in marriage to Jack D. Evers on April 25, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, MO. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1986. Emelyn is survived by: 3 Daughters - Jackie Lee & Bill Greenwood of Hilham, TN, Judy Ann & Jerry Huckleberry of Vienna, IL and Janice Pearl & Larry Dalton of Indianapolis, IN; 8 Grandchildren - Sherry Lyn & Randy Coffey, Billy & Pam Greenwood, Jerri Ann Loyd, Jeneice & James Westerfield, Jason & Mandy Huckleberry, Justin Evers, Larry J. Dalton, Jr. & Lisa Sizemore, and Charlie Dalton; 12 Great Grandchildren - Samuel Coffey, Brooke Greenwood, Jered & Jonathan Huckleberry, Kayla & Kyle Loyd, Jasilyn & Jaelie Westerfield, Joe Sizemore and Lisann, Alisa, & Elisa Emelyn Dalton. Emelyn was happily anticipating the birth of an additional Great Grandchild in December 2007; 1 Sister ƒ?" Frances & Gus Schroeder of Red Bud, IL; a Daughter-in-Law ƒ?" Sandy Evers of Summerset, KY; Nieces, Nephews, other relatives & many dear friends. In addition to her Parents & Husband, Emelyn was preceded in death by: a Son ƒ?" Jimmie D. Evers and a Sister ƒ?" Mary Lou Whiteside Peters. Emelyn was a graduate of the Whiteside Public School, the Vienna Township High School, and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, IL. She received her Bachelor Degree from Indiana Central University and Master of Education Degree from Indiana University ƒ?" Purdue University at Indianapolis, IN. Emelyn was an educator. She first taught at the Bloomfield Public School and later at the Whiteside Public School, both in Johnson County, IL. Following her move to Indiana, Emelyn first taught as a substitute elementary school teacher. She then taught second grade for 2 years at Public School # 28 in Indianapolis. Emelyn taught third grade at Public School # 67 in Indianapolis for several years, prior to her retirement. Emelyn was a member of the Pond Community Ladies Club. She was also a member of the Daniel Chapman Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. Emelyn was the last surviving member of the Casey Springs Church. She also attended Taylor United Methodist Church and the Pulleyƒ?Ts Mill United Pentecostal Church. Emelyn was a devoted Bible student and daily spent time reading her Bible. Emelyn enjoyed reading historical and fictional novels. In recent years, she has enjoyed working word search puzzles. Emelyn was a competitive board game player. Her favorite games included: Yahtzee, Scrabble, Boggle, Scattergories, & Trivial Pursuit (she especially enjoyed the history questions). Emelyn was also an avid gardener and enjoyed raising flowers in her yard. She enjoyed sewing and was a skilled and devoted quilter. Emelyn had pieced many quilts throughout the years. A quilt which she especially treasured was a ƒ?ofriendshipƒ?? quilt made from blocks supplied by fellow quilters across the United States and from several foreign countries, including Denmark, Germany, & Australia. Emelyn even designed her own personal trademark quilt block, ƒ?oEmƒ?Ts Basket.ƒ?? Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, June 30, 2007, at 1 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Fred Wilson will officiate. Interment will be in the Casey Springs Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 PM Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
