We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause during your viewing experience. https://together.oneroomstreaming.com/2QNWBE Edith “Elaine” Rotan, age 84 years, a resident of rural Vienna, Illinois, passed away June 30, 2026, at 3:40 P.M. at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation in Metropolis, Illinois. Elaine was born February 13, 1942 on a family farm near Buncombe, Illinois. She was the daughter of Charles Virgil McKenzie and Mary Maxine (Elkins) McKenzie. She was raised on her family's farm, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work and the simple joys of country life. Elaine was a graduate of the Buncombe Grade School and a 1960 graduate of Vienna High School. Following her graduation, Elaine moved to Elgin, Illinois and began working for Chicago Rawhide. Following her return to Southern Illinois, Elaine worked as a secretary for Jack Williamson, attorney-at-law and later worked for the Job Corp Center near Golconda. Elaine was employed for a number of years by Fruit Belt Farm Service at the Vienna facility. She later accepted a position with the Illinois Department of Corrections and worked for over 25 years at the Vienna Correctional Center, where she served as secretary to the Assistant Warden. Elaine was a woman of deep faith. She was raised attending Oak Grove Baptist Church and later became a member of Vienna First United Methodist Church. On November 11, 2000, Elaine married Phillip J. "Phil" Rotan at Vienna First United Methodist Church. They shared many happy years together until his passing on December 12, 2009. Elaine is survived by: her son – Todd Aaron (Amanda) Test of Goreville, Illinois; granddaughters – Morgan Norris and Haven (Trey) Test; great grandchildren – Paige Groner and Jennings Norris; a brother – Dr. Charles Richard (Jeanne) McKenzie; a sister – Kathy (Dean) Harper; nieces and nephews – Robin Harper (Mike) Whitehead, Shawn (Amber) McKenzie, Allyson (Alexi) Maltas, and Erin McKenzie; as well as beloved great nieces and great nephews. Elaine also leaves to cherish her memory a host of cousins, including a special cousin, Gregg Elkins. In addition to her parents and her husband, Elaine was preceded in death by: her daughter – Sonya Kay; her granddaughter – Lauren Elaine; and a niece – Heather Harper Treat. After retiring, she devoted much of her time to her grandchildren and family. She loved hosting gatherings and Sunday dinners, teaching her grandchildren to cook, garden, and appreciate the simple pleasures of life. She was also known for helping her sister Kathy at This n That Flower Shop and for creating beautiful floral arrangements for loved ones during times of loss. Family and friends fondly remember her famous homemade egg rolls, especially those she prepared for her niece Robin to share on election nights. In her later years, Elaine faced numerous health challenges following a series of strokes and a serious fall. Despite these hardships, she remained surrounded by the love of her family throughout her time at Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and later Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation, where she peacefully passed away. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, with Pastor Steve Heisner officiating. Burial will follow at Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heather Harper Treat Memorial Fund, P.O.
