Hester, age 92 years, a resident of Vienna, Illinois, passed away Saturday morning, April 26, 2025, at 4:25 A.M. at Hillview Senior Living and Rehabilitation in Vienna. Edna was born April 7, 1933 in the Oak Grove community in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of Teddy Virgil Hester and Hester (Ray) Hester. Edna is survived by: her sister – Alice Conroy of Vienna; nieces and nephews – Sheri & Dan Funk, Kevin & Annette Conroy, Kim Hester, Tracy Conroy and Mark & Lisa Chambers; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; as well as cousins and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by:a brother – Billie (Jennie Jo) Hester; 2 nephews – Billie Hester, Jr. and Steve Chambers; and a brother-in-law – Kenneth Conroy; and a great niece – Katie Jo Funk. Edna was a member of the Vienna High School graduating class of 1950. She had been employed as a telephone operator by General Telephone in the former Vienna office. She then worked in the clerical department of a Springfield, Illinois based insurance agency and later Edna worked as an auditor in the State of California, prior to her retirement and return to her native Johnson County. Edna was an avid fan of Elvis Presley. She enjoyed working sudoku puzzles and watching red birds. Edna was a longtime faithful member of First Baptist Church in Vienna. For many years, Edna coordinated a greeting card ministry sponsored by the church. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, May 2, 2025, at 11 A.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Brian Lingle will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be conducted Friday morning, May 2, 2025, from 10 A.M. until the service hour at 11 A.M.
