Connie was born April 23, 1955 in St. Charles, Illinois. She was the daughter of Louis and Wanda (Mahan) Garduno. On December 23, 1994, Connie was united in marriage to Richard Mathis in the Big Bay community. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2018. Connie is survived by: her children – Kathryn McDonald, Jeannie (Ferdinand) Ng, and Dorothy (Lee) Stump all of Metropolis, Illinois and Mike (Molly) Szymanski of Waupaca, Wisconsin; grandchildren – Keith McDonald, Isaiah Byrne, Jacob Byrne, Samuel LaRose, Alexandria Simon, Ashley Cooper, Skyler Cooper, Jordan Moreno, Nelsa Stump, Jeffery Stump, Janie Stump, Tammy Farmer, Briana Szymanski, Timothy Szymanski, Alyssa Szymanski, Kaylee Szymanski, Adam Cohrs, Jared Crum, and Krystal Crum; several great grandchildren; her siblings – Dorothy Szymanski of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Robert Garduno of Joppa, Illinois, Mike Garduno of Forrest, Mississippi, Brenda Joy of Searcy, Arkansas, Nancy Harvill of Olmsted, Illinois, Susan Garduno of Metropolis, Illinois, Donnie Garduno of Paducah, Kentucky, and Lora Bradford of Metropolis, Illinois; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Connie was preceded in death by siblings – Louis Garduno, Jr., David Garduno, Norma Garduno, Jimmy Garduno, Sandy Garduno, and John Garduno. Connie was a homemaker. She enjoyed home decorating, shopping, visiting thrift stores and yard sales. She cherished time spent going out to eat with family and friends. Connie also loved listening to music. She loved her faithful feline companions. Connie was a member of Grace Church in Metropolis. A service honoring the life of Connie Garduno Mathis will be conducted Saturday afternoon, June 21, 2025, at 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Visitation will be held from 12 Noon until the funeral hour at 1 P.M. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the funeral home. Pastor Chris Sielbeck will officiate.
