Casey Lynn Ferry

Casey Lynn Ferry, age 36 years, a resident of Carbondale, Illinois, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, at her home. Casey was born April 15, 1987 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Illinois. Casey is survived by: her parents – Susan (Morgenstern) and Nelson A. Ferry, Sr. of Taft, Tennessee and Raymond D. Williams, Jr. of DuQuoin, Illinois; her siblings – Nelson A. (his wife, Jennifer) Ferry, Jr. of Meridianville, Alabama and Angel D. Waite of Elkmont, Alabama; maternal grandparents – Harry and Patricia Huite of DuQuoin; paternal grandmother – Myrtle Williams of DuQuoin; as well as six nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Casey was a 2005 graduate of Cobden High School. Following her graduation, Casey accepted a position in building services at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She was an independent and free spirit who met life on her own terms. Casey persevered with strength at a young age with handling all her medical challenges and surgeries. She was very creative and loved art, painting, drawing and music. Casey found these interests to be not only artistically fulfilling but also emotionally therapeutic. She is remembered for her caring nature and the joy she found in helping friends. She never met a stranger and would always strike up a conversation with anyone, especially those who others might not seek out to befriend. Casey was community minded and could often be found picking up trash in her neighborhood near her apartment building. She had a passion for collecting, especially frog figurines. A graveside service honoring the life of Casey Ferry will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, August 15, 2023, at 3 PM at Sunset Memorial Park, which is located 1.5 miles north of DuQuoin on U.S. Route 51 (west side of the road). Pastor Dean West will officiate. Interment will follow. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 PM – 3 PM Tuesday at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to NubAbility Athletics, 221 E.
