Veryle Ray Breeden

October 18, 1941 - February 11, 2020

Veryle Ray Breeden, son of Howard Glenn Breeden and Myrtle Irene (Gurley) Breeden was born October 18, 1941 in Simpson, Illinois. He departed this life Tuesday afternoon, February 11, 2020, at 1:50 PM at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky. He was surrounded by his loving family. At the time of his passing, Ray had attained the age of 78 years, 3 months, and 24 days. Ray was united in marriage to Nancy A. (Paxton) on October 25, 1969 in Golconda, Illinois. She survives. Ray is also survived by: his children – Kevin R. (Angie) Breeden of Vienna, Illinois; LaRae M. (Chris) Harner of Tunnel Hill, Illinois, and Kimberly A. (Leonard) Smith of Carterville, Illinois; 3 grandchildren – Jakob Breeden, Grace Breeden, and Zoie Smith. He is also survived by 2 sisters – Doris Lingle of Goreville, Illinois and Judy Pierson of Las Vegas, Nevada; a brother – Gene Breeden of Boulder City, Nevada; 3 sisters-in-law – Virginia Breeden-Jones, Carmen Breeden-Wells and Letha Breeden; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. In addition to his parents, Howard Glenn Breeden and Myrtle Irene Breeden-Mizell, Ray was preceded in death by: 3 brothers – Glenn Breeden, Forrest Breeden, and Wayne Breeden. Ray attended the McKee Public Grade School and was a 1959 graduate of Vienna High School. Ray was employed by Veach Oil Company for many years and then owned and operated his own over-the-road trucks. He later taught truck driving at John A. Logan College, Rend Lake College, and Southeastern Illinois College before starting the program at Shawnee Community College in the early 1980’s. He retired from Shawnee Community College in 2013. Ray also loved raising cattle and hobby farming. He enjoyed showing game horses and trail riding. Ray later trained running quarter horses. He enjoyed coaching Khoury League and Grade School Basketball. Ray was a member of County Line Baptist Church. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Ray and Nancy loved spending time together on and off the farm. He especially enjoyed attending sporting events of his grandchildren and cherished all the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, February 15, 2020, at 10 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor David Faulkner will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery east of Buncombe. Visitation will be held Friday, February 14, 2020, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the Mt.
