Thomas Everett Henard

September 25, 1930 - March 13, 2020

Thomas Everett Henard, age 89 years, a resident Nesbit, Mississippi and a former resident of Vienna, passed away Friday afternoon, March 13, 2020, at 12:37 PM at Methodist Olive Branch Hospital in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Tommy, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was born September 25, 1930 in Buncombe. He was the son of Ernest Jackson Henard and Glenna Afton (Walker) Henard. On September 2, 1950, Tommy was united in marriage to Mary Lee Locke in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on August 20, 2011. Tommy is survived by: his daughter – Carolyn (James) Jaynes; a brother – John (Naomi) Henard; 3 sisters – Mary Lou Brinkley, Dixie (Larry) Hughes, and Shirley (Doyle) Coonce; nieces and nephews; and his very special scottie – “Art.” In addition to his parents and wife, Tommy was preceded in death by 2 sisters – Lorraine Brinkley and Ernestine “Nean” Schweider; 3 brothers-in-law – Harold Brinkley, Ben Schweider, and Caleb Brinkley; a niece – Marilyn Kay Stolarik; and a nephew – Stephen Brinkley. Tommy was a U.S. Army veteran. He served from 1951-1953 in the Korean War, prior to his honorable discharge. Tommy was employed by Greyhound Lines, Inc. as a bus operator for 34 years. He retired in 1990. Tommy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Memphis and attended Boulevard Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi. He was an antique car enthusiast and a member of a classic and antique car club in Memphis. A Graveside Service honoring the life of Tommy Henard will be conducted Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2020, at 2 PM at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 4734 Pleasant Grove Road, Buncombe, Illinois. Pastor Jerry Huckleberry will officiate. Military flag presentation will be accorded by the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail. Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery at 1:45 PM Saturday. There will be no public visitation. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Fund, c/o Terry Norris, 300 May Avenue, Buncombe, Illinois 62912 or to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina 28607.
