Carol (Simmons) Ward

Carol L. Simmons Ward, age 70 years, a resident of rural Mayfield, Kentucky and a former resident of Johnson County Illinois, passed away Monday morning, July 17, 2023, at 11:42 A.M. at Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Carol was born April 10, 1953 in Cook County Illinois. She was the daughter of Lee Riley Simmons and Naomi (Toler) Simmons. On October 4, 2003, Carol was united in marriage to Keith E. Ward in Graves County Kentucky. He survives. In addition to her husband, Carol is survived by: her father – Lee Simmons of Carrier Mills, Illinois; her sons – Neil (Gail) Simmons of Tunnel Hill, Illinois and Jeff (Natalie Hefley) Simmons of Vienna; 4 grandchildren – Garrett (Paige) Mott of Grantsburg, Illinois, Blaine Simmons of Vienna, Illinois, Brooklyn Simmons of Vienna, Illinois and Zane Simmons of Tunnel Hill, Illinois; a great grandson – Jax Mott; a sister – Susan Broski of Carbondale, Illinois and a brother – Greg (Loann) Simmons of Marion; her sisters-in-law – Diane (George) McAlpin, Paula Pedley, and Barbara Ward all of Mayfield, Kentucky; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Carol also leaves her beloved feline companion and her favorite horse, both named Fred. Carol was preceded in death by: her mother – Naomi Simmons and a brother – Mike Simmons. Carol was a 1971 graduate of Vienna High School. She had worked as a home health care provider and served as the postmaster of the New Burnside Post Office. She had also served as a secretary for Glass Doctor, Inc. Carol enjoyed horses and horseback riding. A service honoring the life of Carol Simmons Ward will be conducted Thursday afternoon, July 20, 2023, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Darrell Ford will officiate. Burial will be in the New Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 11 AM – 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
