Ronald was born January 19, 1942 in Harrisburg, Illinois. He was the son of William Frank and Vivian C. (Craig) Ross. On August 10, 1963, Ronald was united in marriage to Barbara Grace Harris at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS) Church near Tunnel Hill. Together, Ronald and Barbara shared almost 60 years of marriage. In addition to his beloved wife, Ronald is survived by: his daughters – Kimberly Ann (Spero) Ventsias of Joliet, Illinois, Karen Michelle (John) Huddlestun of Diamond, Illinois, and Julie LeAnn (David) Stout of Joliet, Illinois; grandchildren – David Glenn and Renee, Rachael Ann and Elizabeth Kate Ventsias; John Mitchell, Jessica Grace and Luke, Rebecca Ann, Andrew Joseph, and Kara Michelle Huddlestun; Abbygail Rain and Jon, Kailee Brianne, Delaynie Payton, Draven Michael, Paisley Grace, Lakeleigh Frances, and Woodsley Reese Stout; 3 great grandchildren – Franklin, Scarlett, and Rivers. In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by a son – Jason William Ross; a grandson – Ivan Ross Huddlestun; a brother – Glenn Robert Ross; and a sister – Ramona Lea Ross. Ronald was a 1959 graduate of Vienna High School. He then attended Southern Illinois University’s Vocational Technical Institute (V.T.I.) and graduated with certification in automotive mechanics. Ronald was employed for a brief time in the welding department of the Allis-Chalmers manufacturing plant in Springfield. His primary working career was as a heavy equipment operating engineer. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local # 150 Ryan Inc. until his retirement. Ronald was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed gardening, camping, and hot summer weather. Ronald was also an avid reader. He and Barb enjoyed attending southern gospel quartet singings. Ronald is remembered for his love of spending time with his family. He particularly cherished time spent with his grandchildren and instilled many important life lessons, including how to correctly hoe the garden and to stay in the walkways between the rows, making sure not to step on the young and tender plants. Ronald and Barbara worshipped together at Stonehill Bible Church in Joliet and locally at the Stonefort General Baptist Church. A service honoring the life of William Ronald Ross will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, May 3, 2023, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Jeff Owens will officiate. Burial will be in the Webb Cemetery near Tunnel Hill. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 11 AM – 1 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
