Virginia D. Hester

Virginia D. "Ginny" Hester, 71, of rural Cypress, Illinois was born on February 28, 1938 in Vienna, Illinois to Clarence Hester and Margie Patrick Hester. She died on October 31, 2009 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters: Shelby Hester and Phyllis Hester Maton. Surviving her are her brother and two sisters: Kenneth Ray Hester and wife Bettajean, and Norma Hester Hodge all of Belknap, IL and Janice Hester Huckelberry of rural Cypress, IL; Nieces, Nephews, her special friends at the Belknap United Methodist Church, as well as a host of other relatives & many dear friends. Ginny went to grade school and two years of high school at Vienna. She finished her high school years at East Aurora High. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and later a Master's Degree from Northern Illinois University, where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. She taught for twenty-four years in Northern Illinois. During her career, she also coached girl's basketball with a successful record, and was girl's athletic director. After taking an early retirement, she returned to Southern Illinois where she started Hester Accounting and Taxes; and was the co-owner, along with her sister Janice of The Floor Store, Cypress Valley Contractors, and Johnson County Plumbing. Ginny excelled at team sports. Before entering high school, she went to Fort Wayne, Indiana where she tried out for Jimmy Fox's Fort Wayne Daisies (women's semi-pro baseball team). After her retirement, she helped coach her nephews' Khoury League teams. She was a Die-Hard Cub fan, attending several games over the years, both regular season in Chicago and Spring Training in Mesa, Arizona. She loved to read and write, and had published a book of her own "The Young Years." She enjoyed the outdoors, and when she was younger, enjoyed riding horses with her sisters. Ginny will be remembered for her smile and infectious laughter. She was a vibrant, genuine person who loved life and had an extraordinary sense of humor. She thoroughly enjoyed playing pranks on family and friends. Ginny had a great love for the people in her life. A Graveside Service will be conducted Saturday morning, November 7, 2009, at 11 AM at the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Rev. Steve Heisner will officiate. Friends may call after 5 PM Friday and from 10 AM - 10:45 AM Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
