Timothy A. Kerley

Timothy Andrew Kerley, age 56, of Metropolis, IL died at his home on August 15, 2020. Tim was born on December 27, 1963 at Massac Memorial Hospital, Metropolis, Illinois. Mr. Kerley graduated from Massac County High School, and Murray State University. Upon graduation, he worked in the Industrial Hygiene field for several years. He also worked in sales, and finished his working life at Western Baptist Hospital, in Paducah, Kentucky. He truly enjoyed his work at Western Baptist, and had many friends among his fellow staff. Tim was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, which the rest of the family really couldn’t figure out, but managed to figure out how to deal with it. He also loved Rock n Roll music, and became an aficionado of the various forms, little heard artists, and loved to play one of his several guitars in his spare time. He knew literally everything about the subject, and will be missed greatly by his musical friends, and truly enjoyed his many friends in No Hipsters Allowed. He had an easy going, serene personality that allowed him to make friends easily, and became a trusted confidant to several of them. He was truly a kind, gentle soul who loved others, and was equally loved by a great number of people. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Andrew Kerley, and Virginia Lee (Spurlock) Kerley. He is survived by his siblings, Andrea (Kent) Sommer of Grand Chain, IL, and a brother William Kerley (Cathy) of Knoxville, TN. He is also survived by a niece, Stephanie (Rocky) Machan of Metropolis, and nephews - Matthew Kerley (and daughters) of Metropolis, and Christopher Kerley of Knoxville, TN. Anyone who knew this kind and gentle soul knew that he loved his beloved cats. They also survive him, and are named Raylin, Boots, Rutherford and Boo. In recognition of Tim’s love of animals (well, mostly cats) he would wish that donations in his memory be made to Project Hope, P.O. Box 125, Metropolis, IL 62960 in lieu of flowers. Due to current health and safety concerns due to COVID-19 all who attend services should practice social distancing, and wear a mask. Graveside services will be held Friday morning, August 21, 2020, at 11 AM, at Rock Springs Cemetery, 1700 Rock Springs Road, Simpson, Illinois 62985. Pastor David Wright and Tim's good friend, Craig Bradley, will officiate. There will be no public visitation. Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery at 10:45 AM Friday. A remembrance for Tim will be held at a later date, and his special request playlist will be unveiled.
