Thomas Len "Tom" Anderson

Thomas Len "Tom" Anderson, age 92 years, a resident of rural Vienna, Illinois, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, May 19, 2024, at 7:43 P.M. at his home. Tom was born September 13, 1931 near Kevil, Kentucky. He was the son of Lenley and Nellie (Price) Anderson. On December 30, 1950, Tom was united in marriage to Lee White in Corinth, Mississippi. Together, Tom and Lee have shared over 73 years of marriage. In addition to his beloved wife, Tom is survived by; a son – DeWayne (Kathy) Anderson; 2 granddaughters: Tammy (Jason) Smith and Emmalee (Jake) McPheron; 4 great grandchildren – Breanna, Jasey, Micaiah, and Ellieana; a sister – Weda Flowers; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by: a son – Terry Len Anderson; and 2 sisters – Elsie Tilford and Reda Feezor Carrell. Tom was a graduate of Heath High School. He was the owner/operator of Action Lumber Co. (the former Bob White Lumber Co.) west of Vienna. Tom, along with his partner Bishop Bird, founded Anderson & Bird Construction Co. They were responsible for many building projects throughout the region, including the original campus buildings at Shawnee Community College. Later, Tom accepted a position with E.T. Simonds Construction Co., where he was employed for over 27 years as a foreman. Tom oversaw many road and bridge construction projects. He was a detailed planner, meticulous organizer, and an effective leader who inspired trust, loyalty and confidence. Tom is remembered for his engineering mind and his love of drafting and design. Tom was a member of Vienna Masonic Lodge # 150 A.F. & A.M. since October 3, 1961. Both he and Lee were members of Egyptian Chapter # 30 Order of the Eastern Star and the former Valley # 108, White Shrine of Jerusalem. Tom was a faithful Christian. He and Lee worshiped together at First Baptist Church in Vienna. Tom served in many capacities, including a church deacon (as well as chairman of the board of deacons), trustee, Sunday School teacher and choir member. With his keen insight into design and construction, Tom was involved in many church remodeling and update projects through the years. Tom is fondly remembered for his love of God and family and his strong work ethic. A graveside service honoring the life of Tom Anderson will be conducted Friday morning, May 24, 2024, at 11 A.M. at the Newton Creek Church Cemetery, 12800 Ogden Landing Road, Kevil, Kentucky 42053. Pastor Jake McPheron will officiate. Interment will follow. Those attending the service are invited to gather at the cemetery at 10:45 A.M. Friday morning.
