Thelma Lucille Marks

Thelma Lucille Marks, age 87 years, a former resident of Buncombe, passed away Thursday evening, October 24, 2019, at 9 PM at the Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna. Lucille was born January 17, 1932 in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of Frantie and Della (Walker) Howard. On September 9, 1946, Lucille was united in marriage to Gene Marks in Williamson County Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2000. Lucille is survived by: a son – Danny Marks of Chester; grandchildren – David Marks, Tommy (Heather) Groner, Taylor Marks, Joseph Marks, and Justin Marks; great grandchildren – Paige, Aiden, Peyton; a brother – Bill Howard of Lexington, Indiana; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death by: a son – David Eugene Marks; a daughter and son-in-law – Sue and Richard “Dale” Davis; 2 brothers – Carl Stokes and Bud Stokes; and 2 sisters – Mildred Marks and Genevieve Newton. Lucille served as a postmaster for the village of Buncombe from 1983 until her retirement in 1994. Lucille was a member of the Cedar Grove Church near Buncombe. She had formerly served as the church secretary/treasurer for many years. Lucille was a longtime member of Goreville Chapter # 1009 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a twice Past Matron as well as former secretary and treasurer. Lucille had also been a member of the Buncombe Senior Citizens. In her spare time, Lucille had enjoyed making hand crafted crochet work, reading, working in her yard and gardening. A service honoring the life of Lucille Marks will be conducted Sunday afternoon, October 27, 2019, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Billy Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Buncombe. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 4 PM – 7 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Eastern Star rites will be accorded at 7 PM Saturday evening under the auspices of Goreville Chapter # 1009 Order of the Eastern Star. Memorials may be made to the Mt.
