Tex G. Perry

Tex G. Perry, age 81 years, a resident of rural Goreville, passed away Saturday morning, November 11, 2023, at 7:40 AM at his home. At the time of his passing, Tex was surrounded by members of his loving family. Tex was born January 21, 1942 at the family home at Goreville. He was the son of Ralph Perry and Melba Genell (Henderson) Perry. On June 13, 1959, Tex was united in marriage to Stella Mae Tucker in Johnson County Illinois. Together, they shared over 59 years of marriage until Mazie’s passing on September 15, 2018. Tex is survived by: his children – Anita (Charlie Spenner) Crane of Goreville, Jim (Debra) Perry of Carterville, and Patricia (Daniel Hance, Sr.) Miller of Goreville; grandchildren – Renee (Bill) Grimes of West Frankfort, Felicia (Chad) Maze of Washington, DC, Rebecca (K.T.) Purdiman of Energy, Gabe Perry of Energy, Blake (Briane) Schuchardt of Eddyville, and Adam Schuchardt of Paducah, Kentucky; great grandchildren – Kristi Brown of Herrin, Tristen Brown, Brantley Grimes, Andrew Grimes, and Rachelle Grimes all of West Frankfort, Meiyah Kirksey and Madison Kirksey both of Energy, Jayden Devore of Carterville, Braelyn Schuchardt and Brynlee Schuchardt both of Eddyville; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister – Judy Webb of Foristell, Missouri; 2 brothers – Wex Perry of Macon, Missouri and Max Perry of Jacksonville, Florida; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, many friends, and his beloved church family. In addition to his grandparents, parents, and beloved wife, Tex was preceded in death by an infant son – Tex Timothy Perry and 2 brothers – Rex Perry and Frank Perry. Tex was a 1959 graduate of Goreville High School. He earned an associate degree in theology from the Indiana Bible College. Tex was a faithful and devoted Christian. He was a minister for over 40 years and pastored for 11 years. Additionally, Tex was employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Vienna Correctional Center for 30 years, prior to his retirement in 1997. While employed at V.C.C., Tex, along with his wife, served in prison ministry for over 25 years. Tex is remembered as a skilled craftsman and woodworker. He and Mazie opened and operated a woodworking business, “Wood Unlimited.” Many local residents could attest to Tex’s skill and artistry. His legacy continues in FCM2 Wood Unlimited. In addition to his carpentry skills, Tex is remembered for the beautiful landscaped beds of roses at his home, which he carefully attended. He is best, however, remembered for all the love he shared with his family and for the Lord through his ministry. A service honoring the life of Tex G. Perry will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, November 15, 2023, at 2 PM at the Marion First Apostolic Church, 923 North Bentley Avenue, Marion, Illinois. Burial will be at the Friendship Cemetery near Goreville. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 10 AM – 2 PM at the Marion First Apostolic Church.
