At the time of her passing, Sylvia was surrounded by her sons: Joshua Crain, John Steinmetz, and Anthony Steinmetz, and all those thinking of and praying for her. Sylvia was born December 30, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois, She was the daughter of Bill W. and Nettie L. (Schuchardt) Crain, both of whom preceded her in death. Sylvia was united in marriage to John K. Steinmetz in Vienna, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1998. Sylvia’s legacy will live on through her three sons: Joshua Crain of West Frankfort, Illinois, John D. (his wife, Jennifer) Steinmetz of Carbondale, Illinois, and Anthony H. (his wife, Katie) Steinmetz of Millstadt; Illinois, along with her grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly, Jaylee, Ethan, Cassidy, Evan, Giovanni, Jay’vion, Wolfgang, Zuri, and Henrietta; Sylvia also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends to cherish her memory. Sylvia was a graduate of the Pope County Community High School, class of 1977. During her career, she had been employed by Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago and was later employed as an Administrative Assistant at Great Lakes Naval Academy. Sylvia had a love for spending time with her family and friends, talking over the phone, laughing to her sons’ jokes, and she found immense joy in the Christmas season. Sylvia was a member of Cedar Grove Social Brethren Church. A funeral service honoring the life of Sylvia Steinmetz will be conducted Friday afternoon, October 27, 2023, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Lee Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery near Eddyville, Illinois. Visitation will be held Friday, October 27, 2023, from 11 AM - 1 PM at the funeral home, with the funeral commencing thereafter.
