Sue Stubblefield

Sue Stubblefield, age 83 years, a resident of the Hillerman community, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 9, 2019, at 12:15 PM at the Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Sue was born May 31, 1935 in Karnak, Illinois. She was the second of five children born to Roland Deward and Helen Mae (Bunker) Astin. On August 19, 1951, Sue was united in marriage to Robert L. “Bob” Stubblefield in Massac County Illinois. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2014. Sue is survived by: her 3 daughters – Sandra Sue (Bobbie) Inman of Karnak, Helen Louise (Carl “Hook”) Blanchard of Metropolis, and Tina Lynn (Lawrence) Ragsdale of Karnak; 13 grandchildren – Melissa (Nathan) Merideth, April (Christopher) Mason, Johnnie Morris, Lucrecia (Roger) Short, Michael (Jessica) Blanchard, Murray (Jessica) Blanchard, Michelle (William) Meyer, Melanie (Jason) Harris, Gavin (Eliza) Blanchard, Erin, Rebecca, Hondo and Adam Ragsdale; 24 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; a sister – Connie (Earl) East of Karnak; a brother – Gary (Janis) Astin of Metropolis; a brother-in-law – Bob Harrell of Horton, Michigan; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Sue was preceded in death by: an infant son – Shannon Drew Stubblefield; an infant sister – Carolyn Astin; a sister – Lela Harrell; and her stepmother – Irene Astin. Sue was a certified nurse’s aide (C.N.A.) as well as a rehabilitation aide. She received her training and certification at Shawnee Community College. She was employed at the former Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Metropolis for over 15 years as a C.N.A. and later as a rehab aide. Sue was a member of the Massac County Homemaker’s Extension. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend. She dearly loved her family and cherished time spent with them. Additionally, Sue maintained a wide circle of friends through her card ministry. Through the years she has sent countless holiday and special occasion cards to family, friends, and church family. Her thoughtful and encouraging cards have inspired and comforted many over the years. In her spare time, Sue enjoyed working crossword puzzles as well as word search puzzles. Sue was a faithful member of the Hillerman Missionary Baptist Church. A service honoring the life of Sue Stubblefield will be held Saturday morning, May 11, 2019, at 11 AM at the Hillerman Missionary Baptist Church, 4197 Hillerman Road, Grand Chain, Illinois. Pastor Ben Hottel will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillerman Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be conducted Saturday morning, May 11, 2019, from 9 AM – 11 AM at the Hillerman Missionary Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the Hillerman Missionary Baptist Church (Cemetery Fund), 4197 Hillerman Road, Grand Chain, Illinois 62942. Checks may be made payable to Hillerman Missionary Baptist Church. Please memo “cemetery fund.” Honored to serve as pallbearers will be: Hondo Ragsdale, Adam Ragsdale, Gavin Blanchard, Dillon Blanchard, Daniel Meyer, Roger Short, and Bryan Meyer.
