Steve R. Jones

Steve R. Jones, 57, a resident of Cypress, Illinois, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 2, 2013, at 3:50 PM at his home. Steve was born December 18, 1955 in Redfield, Iowa. Steve was united in marriage to Sharon L. (nee Gunther) on September 13, 1997 in Cypress, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include: his son – Stephen Andrew Jones of Cypress, Illinois; 4 stepchildren – Alex Pender of Cypress, Illinois, Anthony (Beth) Stepter of Goreville, Illinois, Billy Stepter of Marion, Illinois, and Candice (Shane) Vinson of Cypress, Illinois; 20 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; a brother – James (Nancy) Jones of Santa Maria, California; a sister – Debra Jean Walters of Frederick, Maryland; an aunt – Jessie Veach of Vienna, Illinois; an uncle – Jack (Patty) Meredith of Harrisburg, Illinois, a special cousin – Jim “Doughboy” (Shirley) Jones of the Lake of Egypt, along with a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Joseph R. “Pistol” Jones and Clara Imogene (Meredith) Jones Lang. Steve had served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the 82nd Airborne division. He was an associate member of the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post in Vienna. Steve was also a member of A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois. Steve was a self-employed contractor and the owner/operator of S&S Construction. He was affectionately known as “Captain Meany” by members of his work crew. Steve was involved in the construction of the Arlington Park Racetrack. Steve was of the Methodist faith. He was an avid Jimmy Buffett fan, enjoyed golfing and spending time on his deck by the pool visiting with family and friends. He also enjoyed helping Sharon with her woodworking craft projects. A Graveside Service will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, November 5, 2013, at 1 PM at the Masonic Cemetery in Cypress, Illinois. Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery at approx. 12:45 PM. There will be no visitation. The family would like to express their appreciation to all those who have so kindly assisted them during Steve's illness.
