Mr. Shirley L Moake

Shirley Lee Moake, 80, a resident of Cypress, Illinois, left his loving family to be with the Lord, on Tuesday morning, April 23, 2013, at 2:05 AM at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Shirley was born March 16, 1933 on the family farm near Cypress. He was the son of Melvin & Dorothy (Dorsett) Moake. Shirley was united in marriage to Thelma Parr on April 15, 1954 at the Cypress Baptist Church. Together, Shirley and Thelma enjoyed over 59 years of marriage. Shirley will be sadly missed by: his wife, Thelma Moake of Cypress, IL; 3 children -Rhonda Lee Elkins of Benton, KY, Trina Irene (Mark) Kressley of Richardson, TX and Jeffery Scott Moake of Cypress, IL; a grandson – Travis Gene Greer of Benton, KY; 2 Great Grandchildren – Joslyn and Trevor Greer of Pope County, IL; 2 Sisters – Melva Adams of Avon, IN and Sandra (Bob) Richardson of Cypress, IL; 2 Brothers – Frank (Rita Jo) Moake and Ed (Tammy) Moake all of Cypress, IL; and a host of special in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Shirley was preceded in death by: his grandparents – Robert &Viola Moake and Shirley Blaine & Mary Agnes Dorsett; 2 Sisters – Viola Mae Moake and Wanda Fern Gulley; and 2 Brothers-in-Law – Louis “Pete” Gulley and Billy Joe Adams. Shirley was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He was employed as a railroad crane operator on a C&EI Railroad bridge gang prior to his retirement. Shirley was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening, working in his yard and watching hummingbirds. He was also a Lionel model train enthusiast. Shirley enjoyed watching TV, visiting with family and friends and especially cherished time spent with his grandson and great grandchildren. In his youth, Shirley had enjoyed hunting. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 28, 2013, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Gary O’Neal and Pastor LaRue Parr will officiate. Burial will be in the Cypress Masonic Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 and the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail. Visitation will be from 5 PM – 8 PM Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
