John Scott Obourn was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 25, 1949. Scott was the son of Mary Prichard Obourn and Malcolm Rodney Obourn. They lived in St. Louis but soon moved to Vienna, Illinois. Scott was united with his wife of 50 years, Jean Casper Obourn, who survives him along with their three sons – Darren Scott, John Patrick, Malcolm Rodney and his wife Amanda – and three grandchildren – Mabel Kay, Nolan Scott, and Maisie Jean. He is also survived by his younger sister – Cathy Warmack of Paducah, Kentucky. Following graduation from Vienna High School, Scott attended Murray State University where he earned a bachelors degree in Biology with a teaching certificate. Soon after graduation from Murray his career at the Vienna Correctional Center began. Scott held many positions from a teacher to Assistant Warden. Retiring from Corrections after 25 years of service, Scott devoted much of his time to managing family farms. Scott served as Mayor of the city of Vienna in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Vienna and for the last several years served as trustee chairperson, implementing many building improvements. His loyalty to the church and his Christian faith were a lighthouse and a foothold to so many. Scott was on the Board of Directors of the former First State Bank. He had also served as President of the Vienna High School Board of Education. Scott supported many community organizations with his talents and was serving currently as the Vice-President of the Johnson County 2000 board. Through out his life, Scott was an avid hunter and fisherman. He shared enjoyable hours golfing and boating with close friends and family. He loved and rooted for the Dodgers while Darren cheered on the Cardinals. Scott especially enjoyed the years of following his boys playing baseball. He loved his new role as PaPaw. Scott cherished his many friendships. His relationships were unique, important, and enduring. A memorial service honoring the life of Scott Obourn will be conducted Monday evening, May 15, 2023, at 7 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Tim Gossett will officiate. Prayer will be offered by Pastor Ed Hoke. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 PM – 7 PM Monday at the funeral home. A committal service will be conducted Tuesday morning, May 16, 2023, at 10 AM at the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Those attending the committal service are invited to gather at the cemetery at 9:45 AM Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Vienna First United Methodist Church, P.O.
