Salathiel Quinn III

Salathiel Lass Quinn, 85 of Goreville IL, formerly of Du Quoin IL, passed away August 19th 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Salathiel was born in Du Quoin IL on November 14, 1939 at his family home. He was the son of Salathel Lassie & Mary (Story) Quinn. He was united in marriage to Nancy Louise Knapp on May 16th 1959 in Du Quoin. She preceded him in death on July 21st, 2024. Together they shared 65 years of marriage. Salathiel is survived by his "wonderful" daughter Joyce Ann Maze and her husband Jeff, of Goreville. The pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren- Alletha Aden (Destry) of Lick Creek IL, Chad Maze (Felicia) of Kaiserslautern Germany (Ramstein AFB), Laenya Nelson (Ryan) of Tipp City, Ohio (Wright Patterson AFB), great grandchildren, Levi Kole Alvis, Avery Marie Aden, Kiara Anelle Aden, McKenna Naomi Nelson, and Atlas Ryan Nelson. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, wonderful friends, and a loving church family. In addition to his wife, parents and grandparents, Salathiel was preceded in death by his brothers Donald and Raybern Quinn, sisters Lucille Quinn, Mary Louise George, Roberta Waller, Shirley Murry, and Elvira (Vera) Morgan. Salathiel was employed by Turco Manufacturing as a machine operator in Du Quoin for over 25 years. He also worked at Gilster-Marylee in Pinckneyville IL as a forklift driver, and Tuck Tape in Carbondale IL. Later, he enjoyed his job as a security guard at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. Eventually, he fully retired at home with Nancy. They enjoyed feeding birds, watching wildlife, and catching up on political news. Salathiel was a member of the Du Quoin United Pentecostal Church for 59 years where he filled the roles of Sunday School bus driver, janitor, Sunday School Secretary, as well as played the organ and accordion. After moving to Goreville to be closer to his daughter, he attended the Pentecostals of Lick Creek church where he made a host of wonderful friends and fond memories until his health would not allow him to attend. “Sal”, as a lot of his friends called him, loved cherry pie, anything he considered to be an antique, and was an avid yard sale client. You could be sure to find him rising early to catch a bargain. If he wasn't out picking a deal, you'd find him fishing, camping, riding his Honda motorcycle around town or singing his favorite gospel tune. Salathiel loved his family greatly. He was proud to be a husband and a father; however, being Grandpa was a bigger accomplishment, and he wore it proudly, spoiling his grand-kids. A service honoring the life of Salathiel will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 1 P.M. at the Pentecostals of Lick Creek sanctuary (1275 N Lick Creek Rd, Goreville, IL). Visitation will be held Saturday from 11 A.M. until the time of the service. Pastor Ken Perry will officiate. Burial will follow at Busby Chapel Cemetery, south of Goreville.
