Rose Lillian Morris

Rose Lillian Morris, age 80 years, a resident of rural Simpson, Illinois and a former resident of Pacific, Missouri, passed away Monday morning, July 3, 2023, at 3:10 A.M. at the Southgate Health Care Center in Metropolis. Rose was born September 18, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the eldest child born to Charles and Dorothy (Yokel) Fine. On July 20, 1984, Rose was united in marriage to Phil R. Morris in St. Charles, Missouri. He survives. In addition to her husband, Rose is survived by: 3 sons – Timothy (Dana) Morris of Arkansas, Matthew (Jorge) Morris of Colorado, and Benjamin (Jessica) Morris of Illinois; grandchildren – Nicholas Lantz, Katherine Lantz, Timothy (Ashli) Morris, Jr., Katie Morris, Emily Morris, Boone Morris, and Presley Morris; great grandchildren – Khyli Jo, Korbyn Marshall, and Adylee Kate; a great-great grandson – Theodore; a sister – Gloria (Bill) Weaver of Pacific, Missouri; 2 nieces - Robin and Aaron; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends. Rose is also survived by her beloved canine companion, “Scottie.” In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by a son – Christopher Lantz; and 2 brothers – Charles D. Fine and Jerry Fine. Rose was a 1960 graduate of Eureka (Missouri) High School. She also attended cosmetology school in Maple Wood, Missouri. Rose worked for a number of years as a hair stylist. She later was employed for 20 years as a dealer at Player’s Casino in Metropolis. In her youth, Rose was a member of the Lutheran faith. Following her move to Southern Illinois, Rose affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Vienna and was baptized in that church. She and Phil later became members of the County Line Baptist Church in the Flatwoods community. Rose enjoyed making hand crafted items. A graveside service honoring the life of Rose Morris will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, July 5, 2023, at 2 P.M. at Kerley Cemetery, located on Kerley Lane, Simpson, Illinois (the Flatwoods community). Pastor David Faulkner will officiate. Family and friends are invited to gather at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna at 1:15 P.M. to form a procession to travel to the cemetery.
