Ronald Tanner

Ronald "Ronnie" Tanner, age 84 years, a resident of New Burnside, Illinois, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, December 26, 2024, at 5 P.M. at his home. Ronnie was born September 17, 1940 in New Burnside, Illinois. He was the son of Rual N. Tanner and Dimple H. (Cross) Tanner. On June 23, 1967, Ronnie was united in marriage to Minnie Joe Duty in Johnston City, Illinois. She survives. In addition to his wife, Ronnie is survived by: his daughters – Channa (Shane) Harrison of Tunnel Hill, Illinois and Katrina Burnett of Vienna, Illinois; grandchildren – Aaris (Ben) Farmer of Burnet, Texas, Jessica (Bryan) Waters of Vienna, Illinois, Dillan (Hannah) Harrison of Carrier Mills, Illinois, Savannah (Brandon) Casey of Vienna, Illinois, and Channa “C.J.” (Andru) Noe of Dahlgren, Illinois; great grandchildren – Lakota, Gracie, Caden “Best Buddy,” Brooke, Kaylee, Karsen, and Gwendalyn; his siblings – Donna White of Ozark, Illinois, Shirley Brown & Melba Tanner of New Burnside, Illinois, Karon (Bill) Scates of Shawneetown, Illinois, Debra (John) Bush of Harrisburg, Illinois, Gary (Helen) Tanner of New Burnside, Illinois, and John (Margaret) Tanner of Simpson, Illinois. Ronnie had many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and his brothers-in-law who he considered his own brothers. Ronnie was happily awaiting 2025 for the arrival of two more great granddaughters – Babies Casey and Waters. Ronnie was also looking forward to gaining a son-in-law, David East, of Mayfield, Kentucky. In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by a daughter – Gwenda Elaine Tanner; 2 brothers – Richard “Dick” (Jo) Tanner and David Tanner; and a sister – Lynn (Charlie) Tanner. Ronnie proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a military police officer where he received various commendations. He then graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy and worked as a trooper for 12 years. Ronnie then transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections where he was a captain/shift commander and retired in 1991. Ronnie loved his family deeply and made them his priority. He loved his wife, Minnie Joe, and he displayed that love daily. He will forever be missed and lovingly remembered. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 2 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Pete Slivinski will officiate. Burial will be in the Reynoldsburg Cemetery near Tunnel Hill, Illinois. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 12 Noon until the funeral hour at 2 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
