Rickey was born October 8, 1950 in the Bloomfield community in Johnson County Illinois. He was the son of Arthur and Mary Elizabeth (Cheek) Harner. On October 22, 1971, Rickey was united in marriage to Sandra Sue Brantley at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, near Grantsburg. In addition to his wife, Rickey is survived by: his son – Preston (his wife, Angie) Harner of Tunnel Hill, Illinois; grandchildren – Colton (his wife, Mary Jane), Sarah, and Katie Beth Harner; a sister – Vickey (her husband, Richard) Swiney of Vienna; and a brother – Robert (his wife, Theresa) Harner of Goreville. In addition to his parents, Rickey was preceded in death by: his daughter – Mandy Harner and an infant grandson – Arthur Lewis Kaufman. Rickey was a 1968 graduate of Vienna High School. In his youth, Rickey had worked as an attendant at the Vienna Standard Oil Company service station. Later, Rickey began his working career with the Illinois Department of Corrections. He served as a correctional officer until his retirement in 2002. Additionally, Rickey worked for Fruit Belt Farm Service in a variety of capacities including warehouse manager and delivery. Rickey was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially deer and rabbit hunting. Rickey was also a ‘tinkerer’ and could often be found building things in his garage. Rickey was of the Christian faith. He had recently rededicated his life to Christ. A funeral service honoring the life of Rickey Dean Harner will be conducted Monday afternoon, June 24, 2024, at 1 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Colton Harner, Rickey's grandson, will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, June 24, 2024, from 11 A.M. until the service hour at 1 P.M.
