Phyllis (McGinnis) Hull

Phyllis Anne (McGinnis) Hull, age 66 years, a resident of rural Tunnel Hill (the Lake of Egypt). Passed away Wednesday evening, August 7, 2013, at 10:35 PM at her home with her loving family at her side. Phyllis was born January 21, 1947, in Vienna, Illinois to Calvin L. McGinnis and Pauline (Rion) McGinnis. She married Michael Hull September 7, 1968 at New Hope Baptist Church in Massac County, Illinois. Phyllis graduated from SIU in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and later obtained a Master’s Degree from NIU in 1990. She taught 2 years in Southern Illinois before moving to Northern Illinois where she taught first grade for 30 years at Grand Prairie Elementary in Plainfield, Illinois. She retired from teaching in 2003. Teaching was her passion. Phyllis attended the Cornerstone Community Church in Marion. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, dear sister-in-law, aunt, and friend to many. She loved her grandson, her faithful furry companions; Artie and Murphy, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She devoted her free time to helping others. She was a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International; Alpha Xi Chapter, Goreville Chapter #1009 Order of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, Johnson County Homemakers Extension and the Johnson County Retired Teachers Association. She was most recently accepted as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include her husband; Michael Hull of Tunnel Hill, IL; her daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law David Homan of Tunnel Hill, IL; her grandson, David Jacob “D.J.” Homan; her brother-in-law & sister-in-law Jerry & Cathy Hull of Texas, along with their children Kevin, Stacy, & David. She was preceded in death by her parents; Calvin and Pauline McGinnis. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, IL. Dr. Michael Nave and Dr. Jerry Hull will officiate. Burial will be in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Monday from 6PM-8PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
