Pauline Gholson

Pauline Gholson, age 86 years, a resident of Vienna, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 28, 2021, at 5:45 PM at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky. Pauline was born January 19, 1935 in the Herod community (Pope County) Illinois. On November 29, 1953, Pauline was united in marriage to William Rex “Bill” Gholson at Broughton, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2018. Pauline is survived by: her children – Christine Meade of Marion, Illinois, Carolyn (her husband, Don) Foster of Arizona City, Arizona, Roger Gholson of Buckeye, Arizona, and Rodney (his wife, Kari Beth) Gholson of Vienna, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a brother – Carroll Partain of McLeansboro, Illinois, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends. Pauline is also survived by her beloved canine companion “Sug.” Pauline was preceded in death by her mother – Irene Owen Partain; her husband – Rev. William “Bill” Gholson; and a sister-in-law – Pat Partain. Pauline was a 1953 graduate of Eldorado High School. She was employed for a time as an aide at the State Hospital in Dixon, Illinois. She also served as a school bus driver for several years in the Steward, Illinois school system. Pauline had also worked as a cook in a nursing care facility in Rochelle, Illinois and later at the Village Flower Shoppe in Vienna, where she served as a delivery person. Pauline was a devoted wife & mother. She served faithfully with her husband, Rev. Bill Gholson, in the various church congregations he pastored. Pauline was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vienna. She enjoyed the weekly Bible Studies, led by Pastor Tommy Gray, at Autumn Ridge Supportive Living Center. Pauline played the piano and served in the music ministry in a number of churches through the years. In her spare time, Pauline enjoyed working crossword, word-search & Sudoku puzzles. She also knitted, read, made crafts and played Bingo at Autumn Ridge. A Funeral service honoring the life of Pauline Gholson will be held Thursday morning, November 4, 2021, at 10 AM at First Baptist Church in Vienna. Immediately following the service, a luncheon for family and friends will be served in the church fellowship hall. A graveside committal service will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday at Hickory Hill Cemetery near Broughton, Illinois. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, November 3, 2021, from 5 PM - 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Additionally, there will be visitation Thursday morning, November 4, 2021, from 9 AM until the service hour at 10 AM at First Baptist Church in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the resident activities fund at Autumn Ridge Supportive Living, c/o Arrowleaf, P.O. Box 1328, Vienna, Illinois 62995 or to the resident activities fund at Hillview Health Care Center, 512 North 11th Street, Vienna, Illinois 62995. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. For the benefit of those unable to personally attend the service, the ceremony will be livestreamed on the Bailey Funeral Home Facebook page and will be archived for later viewing.
